"Five Star Painting deserves every bit of its five-star rating! I recently had the pleasure of hiring them to paint my bedroom, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, they displayed an unwavering commitment to perfection and customer satisfaction. First and foremost, the team at Five Star Painting proved their expertise by flawlessly executing my vision of custom colors in my bedroom. They took the time to understand my preferences and provided valuable recommendations to enhance the overall aesthetic. The end result was a stunning transformation that exceeded my expectations. Moreover, I had an unsightly accent wall with prior damage that needed special attention. The skilled painters at Five Star Painting expertly textured the wall, seamlessly concealing the imperfections and giving it a brand-new lease on life. Their attention to detail was evident in every stroke, ensuring a flawless finish. What truly sets Five Star Painting apart is their commitment to quality. They didn't just complete the job and leave; they went the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. The team made multiple follow-up visits to inspect the work and make any necessary touch-ups. This level of dedication and accountability is truly commendable. Throughout the entire process, the team exhibited professionalism, courtesy, and respect for my home. They arrived on time, worked efficiently, and maintained a clean workspace. It was evident that customer satisfaction was their top priority. "HERC was absolutely top knotch. Everything was exceptional. Surfaces were properly prepped and primed and then painted with two coats to ensure superior results. The contractor maintained excellent communication, asking for homeowner's input whenever there was a question on how to proceed. The job was for an entire house consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a family room, and a stairwell. Doors, baseboards, ceilings, walls, and trim were all painted to perfection. I'd hire HERC again in a heartbeat!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

Staining a wood fence isn’t guaranteed to prevent warping, but it can help. Plus, it’s a beginner-friendly DIY project that you can finish in a few days. If you want to try it, you’ll start by stripping it of any old stain or paint, then sanding it. After that, you’ll clean it and spot-treat any mold or mildew. When it’s dry, you can apply the stain.

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

Manufacturers use a different process and formula for exterior paint versus interior. The exterior formula has to withstand elements like temperature, UV lighting, moisture, wind, and debris. Interior paint doesn’t need to be as tough, only exposed to dust, scratches, dents, scuff marks, and the like.

If you paint a vinyl fence, it will likely stick to it for only a brief amount of time. This is because vinyl is not a porous material, so it's not an ideal surface for holding paint. Initially, paint will stick to your fence, but it will eventually peel off. Applying primer before painting your vinyl fence will help paint last longer. Certain primers are well-suited to vinyl, which means you can paint vinyl siding with the proper preparation.
