Hi!!! My name is Katie Hughes. I have always weirdly loved cleaning and painting and helping others it’s honestly my favorite thing to do. It’s so satisfying and I’ve become very good at it as well. And to know I can make money from doing it just makes it all so much better! I have a very happy bubbly personality and am down to helping clean, renovate, or help with whatever anyone needs! :)

"They tried to sell me a complete chimney cleaning at an exorbitant price. I had it done much less expensively, and i am pleased with the result. "

I have a part time helper, I do some sub-contracting, billing is normally cash, credit card or check. I can leave and invoice, special discounts of ten percent off in spring from April to June on chimney cleaning only.

"Jeff is AMAZING! He was prompt to respond, prompt to come to my house...several times...and spent a great deal of time explaining my options and what needed to be done. My house is 100 years old, and the chimney was crumbling. He took it down to the flashing and capped it off and even saved the antique bricks for me. He willingly came back several times because the plumbers messed up their scheduling to install the gas line. He cleaned years worth of garbage that was behind the ancient gas stove, built a firebox, painted it flat black, and installed my new gas logs. He always cleaned up after himself and was kind and generous with his time, explaining things to me. He even spent a long time on the phone talking me through relighting my pilot light when I couldn't get it to light. I would highly recommend him to do chimney work."

"Mr. Reed and his workers took roughly 3 days to complete the work, as it could not all be done at the same time. I would estimate roughly 72+ man hours went into all of the work that needed to be done. Here is a brief synopsis of that work: 1. A new chimney crown was installed. 2. Organic material removed, a cricket was built to divert material away from the back side of the chimney, and new flashing was installed. 3. A special device forced a fireproof material into all of the gaps between the flue tiles, thus sealing the flue from top to bottom. Most importantly I am extremely happy with the results. Mr. Reed explains everything that needs to be done so that it is easy to understand. Also, he started work as soon as weather permitted and completed the work in just a few days. Only with the flue sealant did his men need to be inside of the house, so there was very little inconvenience to my wife and me."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it’s a good idea to leave the icicles on your roof and wait for the warmer weather to melt them away naturally. You should only remove icicles if you believe they’re heavy enough to cause damage to your home or anyone who enters it.

There are several ways to remove snow from your roof: using a snow rake, salting the roof with calcium chloride, using a rope (cautiously), and using heating cables. It’s important to mention that pretty, fluffy, sparkling snow weighs a great deal, and when physically removing snow from a roof, you should be aware of large snow slabs breaking off. These can weigh hundreds of pounds and are a real danger, so be extremely careful anytime you’re doing this type of work.

It is not advisable to DIY a roof cleaning job. Cleaning your roof yourself could lead to hazardous falls, scrapes, and even burns, making this a dangerous project. Additionally, using the wrong cleaning solution or cleaning method on your roof could risk damaging it. While some markets offer a DIY roof cleaning kit, these products often speed up the deterioration of your roof.

To ensure that you and your roof are protected, it’s best to leave roof cleaning to a professional with the right chemicals, tools, and equipment to complete the job safely.

Inspect annually for damage, clean debris, and reapply sealant to maintain protection.

You may become so frustrated with the look of moss on your roof that you contemplate whether to clean or replace your roof. Fortunately, you don’t have to go as far as replacing it. After cleaning the moss, you can use a chemical solution to keep it away. For further protection, trim branches that overhang the roof, as fallen seed pods and leaves on the roof allow moisture to collect, encouraging moss growth. Consider adding zinc-coated flashing to the roof, too. As rain washes across the zinc, it leaves zinc particles behind that inhibit moss growth.
