"The CHW Tech was unable to connect the air condition to the Nest thermostat because it was not registering but he was able to provide us with cool air until the previous HVAC company was able to come and fix the system the next day. I had to pay the CHW Tech for the entire service but was reimbursed by the original company that installed the furnace because they knew that this was their error."

"They showed up (a little late).  Interesting that they didn't bring ladders, but since they didn't bring them when they cleaned the gutters, either, I wasn't surprised.  They had some light clips, but not enough.  Fortunately, I had plenty of my own, so the lights went up and stayed up.  (They hadn't used the kind of clips I had, and I hadn't used them before myself, but the lights stayed up even with the winds we've had.

I'll use them again, cause it certainly beats getting up on the roof myself to put the lights up.  I had set up a timer for the lights at the outlet I told them to use, but they didn't plug into the timer, just into the outlet. No biggie, I fixed it the next day."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

""Rooster's Heating and Cooling" Moving here from out of state I didn't know who to call, and more importantly, who to trust when the old air conditioner of our new dream home broke down on one of the hottest days of the year. A good neighbor told me about Matthew Smith at "Rooster's Heating and Cooling," and told me that Matthew was one of those, "Hard working good old boys," with the morals and values of yesterday, that you just canâ t find in a lot of folks today. I'm glad I listened because my neighbor was right! Matthew Smith at "Rooster's Heating and Cooling" dropped everything he was doing, and this was after working hours on a Saturday, on the 4th of July weekend. He came to my home and repaired my antiquated air-conditioner for a few bucks saving me thousands of dollars in buying a new unit. He could have just as easily taken advantage of me! "My recommendations do not come higher," Thanks Matthew, you have a lifelong customer! Happy Reading! Novelist, R.W. Nichelson"

Nest Installation questions, answered by experts

Tree sap is not usually dangerous to humans or pets. But some trees do produce dangerous sap. Notably, ash, birch, cedar and similar saps can irritate the skin but aren’t dangerous. Sap from trees like the Brazilwood, Mahogany, Milky Mangrove or well-named Poison Walnut can be corrosive, cause nausea, or trigger those with asthma. But for most backyard trees, protective equipment like a sturdy pair of gloves should be fine.

Notably, earwigs, centipedes, and spiders all enjoy a silverfish lunch. You can’t turn to natural predators to fix your silverfish problem: In fact, one issue with silverfish is that they can bring in unwanted earwigs into the house or cause a minor infestation of hungry spiders, so it’s important to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Some people find that treating their yards with natural substances can help to repel ticks. In fact, pest extermination companies often offer all-natural lawn treatments to repel ticks. Household ingredients like oregano oil, clove oil, thyme, and citronella ward off ticks and are natural ways to get rid of fleas.

While you might want to cut corners by either borrowing or purchasing used live traps for catching rats, this can be dangerous because those traps could contain leftover viruses and bacteria that will enter your home. Always start fresh with new materials to avoid contamination.

Scent deterrents like ammonia, vinegar, mothballs, and pepper can help keep coyotes away, but these are best used in tandem with other preventative measures. Remember that ammonia and vinegar can kill your plants and/or grass, so it’s best to soak rags in these substances or spray them on hardscaped areas to avoid damaging your landscape.
