"I spoke with Mr. Reed over the phone in detail about the problems I was experiencing. He suggested that I buy a new ceiling fan and light kit since the problem with the ceiling fan sounded like it might be a result of the age of the fan. If it turned out I didn't need the fan, I could return it. Due to my schedule and since my problems were not urgent, I scheduled for about a week after our conversation, which was delayed a little also due to freezing weather and snow that we were experiencing at the time. However, he came as scheduled and on time. He checked all of the electrical outlets in the room (5) and repaired the ones that were not working (2). He checked the electrical box in the bathroom and it was found to be safe. He only needed to tighten the box within the enclosure. The ceiling fan did need to be replaced. Mr. Reed was very professional, knowledgeable and personable. I would definitely hire again. I need to have a ceiling fan installed in another room and have two more electrical outlets added in the living room. I will hire him again to perform those services."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.
