"Original plan was to separate existing ceiling lights controlled by 3-way switches in separate lighting controlled by independent switches. A second project was to add a switch leg to existing recessed lights in the living room and install 3-way switches to control the recessed lights. Upon inspection, Mr. Logue informed that due having to work in the attic in tight quarters (2-3' head space) he would have to work while lying in the approximately 5" of blown cellulose insulation, he would not do that.

Mr. Logue and his son did complete the other projects in 4 hours which I thought was good since the Big Deal was for 8 man hours. I realized that I would be responsible for materials used and a charge for working in the crawl space to install wiring. I was not prepared to learn that the extra charge for work under the house would nearly double the total cost.

Mr. Logue and his son were very efficient in their work. I was very surprised that he scheduled to come on New Year's day which was fine with me. After changing projects to be done, Mr. Logue and his son worked diligently to complete them.

I was pleased with the work performed. I only wish I had prior knowledge of the size of the extra charges that were added on. The ad for the Big Deal should be more informative concerning "extra charges" for work in an attic or crawl space. If I had known the extra charges could be up to several hundred dollars more, I might had reconsidered whether the Big Deal was really a real deal to take advantage of.

"     In order to complete to layout design I submitted a drawing of the room as well as a series of photos.  The website for Homemade design has a questionaire what helps define your overall tastes in design.  I joined Pinterest and started boards for furniture, lighting, bookshelves which were reviewed.  Homemade design comes to New York periodically to meet with clients not in the Boston area and this gave us a chance to meet and select furniture and upholstery at the New York Design center.  This is an extra charge but well worth it since I was completely overwhelmed.  They were extremely patient and guided me through the process.  At one point I decided to move the television which turned out to be a bad idea -- they explained why it would not worked and I concurred competely after I understood the reasons.  So, they are not afraid to tell you if you going down the wrong road. I live in a New York City townhouse and forget that I do not have a whol lot of space even though my house is huge for NYC. So, I had to be told how to "scale" everything to the space we had to work with, which was helpful
I purchased the service several months ago but was not ready to actually decide on the actual purchases until recently. So, the delay in completion is because of my schedule.  I now hope to finish everything by September.

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Options include pathway lights, spotlights, and smart lighting systems. Choose based on function and aesthetics.

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.

Replacing a pool light costs about $625 per light. If you only need to replace the light bulb, plan on paying about $20 to $100 per light. The largest cost factors include the type of pool light, the number of pool lights needed, and the labor costs in your location. But additional cost factors include work required on existing wiring, other repairs, and the continual maintenance needed to keep your pool light in good working condition after installation.

Modern outdoor light fixtures are waterproof and weather resistant, and, provided they’re installed correctly and by a professional, the fixture and wiring can last for 20 to 30 years or more. The lifespan will depend largely on the quality of the fixture. The lifespan of the bulb will depend on the type of light you install:

  • CFL bulb (for sustained use): 15,000 hours

  • Halogen bulb (mostly for security): 2,000 hours

  • HID bulbs (for security): 12,000 hours

  • Incandescent bulb: 1,000 hours

  • LED bulb: 50,000 hours

While wet-rated and damp-rated lighting is designed to handle contact with moisture, there’s a difference between the two. Wet-rated lighting is safety-rated to be placed in areas with direct exposure to water, including your shower. Fixtures classed as wet-rated are made with waterproof seals to protect the filament and other electrical components from water and moisture.

Damp-rated fixtures can be used in places with some moisture contact, but not direct exposure. They don’t have the same waterproof seals used in wet-rated fixtures. Damp-rated lighting can be used on your bathroom ceiling or along a wall outside of your shower.
