"We live in Hillcrest and needed some repair with a couple of exterior door frames that were rotting away. He responded to my HomeAdvisor inquiry within 20 minutes of submitting it. I never even heard back from a few of the other companies. He came over to provide an estimate within an hour. He gave me a free estimate and once he was finished with the work he stuck to that exact same price...no trying to add more to his estimate. His work is awesome. It looks terrific and he took his time to do it the right way. He is very professional and very personable. Was very nice to my baby and to my wife. We thought it went so well that we have already asked him to come back for more home repairs. A+"

"Did an excellent job correcting a disaster made by someone else I hired. Was dependable, courteous, and very good at his job. Will hire again and recommend to others. If you have any door or window issues he is the best person to call."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

If you’d rather repair your screen door mesh than replace it, you can patch it. Purchase a mesh patch for screen doors with small holes or tears, especially if the mesh is pretty new. Hardware stores and websites sell mesh patches that are easy to apply with an adhesive or a warm hair dryer. Keep in mind that repairs won’t look as aesthetically pleasing in most cases as a full replacement.

Window seals don’t last forever, so they’ll inevitably fail for one reason or another. One of the most common reasons is the expansion and contraction of the glass. When the glass gets warm from sunlight, it expands and adds pressure to the seal; at night, as the glass cools, it contracts. This process, day in and day out, can eventually cause the seal to fail. Other common sources of failure include the house settling over time, chemicals that damage the seal when repainting windows, and incorrect window installation.

Solar screens are low-maintenance but benefit from occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or pressure washing, as these can damage the mesh. Inspect screens annually for tears or loose frames to maintain performance. In dusty or coastal areas, more frequent cleaning may be necessary to prevent buildup.

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

Window screens can help keep some heat out of your home, which is one benefit of using them in summer. It’s also the reason experts suggest removing your screens in winter—so it’s easier for the sun’s warmth to filter into your home. This will keep you cozier and potentially reduce your heating bills.
