"Tradesman was very easy going and energetic to take on and install new hardware. My New York antique twist doorbell looks amazing and my new door hardware is snug and secure. I will hire tradesman again for future projects."

"He hung barn doors. He even added some additional custom touches. May sure to double check work after completion. The front of two doors were painted but he refused to paint the back of those same doors."

"Shelby Properties did an excellent job remodeling my 1970s bathroom and brought it into the 21st century. They were on time everyday and answered all my questions. The quality of the work was good and exceeded my expectations. Thank you for a job well done."

Doors questions, answered by experts

At the minimum, you want your pet door to fit into its intended location, be the right size for your pup, and have energy-efficient and weatherproofing features. Besides that, you’ll also need features that are unique to your situation. If you live where raccoons run rampant, you should look into doors you can open remotely. If you have small children in your home, you might need a door that only responds to your dog’s collar.

Security experts recommend deadbolt locks as the most secure option for a house's exterior or entry doors. Deadbolts provide the best security because they can prevent most types of forced entry and are harder to lockpick. Common types include the standard single-cylinder deadbolt, which is often found on front doors. For enhanced security, you can opt for a double-cylinder deadbolt, which requires a key to operate from both the inside and the outside.

No, a storm door should not replace a regular door. It lacks the durability, insulation, and security of a proper exterior door. Most storm doors have lightweight frames and minimal locking hardware, and they aren’t meant to stand alone. While they work well as a backup to your main entry door, relying on one as your only barrier would likely lead to drafts, higher energy bills, and safety concerns.

Not every door can be converted into a pocket door. Pocket doors require specific hardware and a hollow space within the wall to slide into when open. The door must be sturdy enough to handle the sliding mechanism but not too heavy, as excessive weight can cause operation and track alignment issues. While some standard interior doors can be adapted for use as pocket doors with the right hardware, it's essential to ensure the door's compatibility and the structural feasibility of creating a pocket in the wall.

Your front door should only need replacing every 20 to 40 years, depending on the material and level of wear and tear. Sometimes a door will need replacing sooner due to extreme weather conditions, like a hurricane or storm. In other cases, you may want to upgrade your door to add some upgraded curb appeal—especially when prepping your home for sale.
