"All around great service, very professional and straight forward experience. From evaluation of roof condition and or damage, to working with the insurance adjuster to help determine replacement over repair options, Dunlop Roofing was top notch and did a wonderful job installing my new roof in just one day. An awesome company that I fell comfortable recommending."

Small jobs welcome

"Kent was very thorough with his work and was friendly. I walked with him in every step except going up the roof or in the crawlspace. I also felt assured that he was conducting the inspection in my interest, and not the realtor's or the seller's"

"Reasonable price, professional, accommodating, and overall pleasant. When I asked them to please clean up when they left, they did. When I asked to have the metal left behind so I can sell it, they did. When a neighbor asked the boss to give her an estimate on a roof, she wanted fixed, he did. The boss even tried to fix a piece of my siding that's always never fit right due to a goof-up at the mobile home factory. Now, let's see how this thing handles south Alabama storms. Since the boss got a taste of how windy it can be on a CLEAR day at my house, I suspect this roof ain't goin' to Oz."

"ErieHome waterproofed my basement. The crew was polite, kind, and came in, did an excellent job in 3 days by digging a trench on the inside of the basement, removing the dirt from the bottom of the foundation, installed corrugated tubing, rock and then cement. They also installed a Humidex airpurifier and new sump pump with a backup pump. They cleaned up afterward. Any questions I had were answered in a respectful manor. I now have peace of mind knowing that I no longer have to monitor weather forecasts for rain or have to clean up anymore incoming water. The system is warranted for the life of the house and included within the price, which increased the value of my home."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Roofers can install roof vents. Updating, upgrading, or simply replacing your roof's existing vents is common when installing a new roof. If you're looking to upgrade your ventilation system with a powered version, a local HVAC professional can also help with the task. If adding roof vents to your home is necessary while installing an addition or during other renovation work, your contractor will handle or hire out the venting work.

In general, you should consider replacing your roof if more than 30% of it is damaged. This includes several missing shingles, large spots of granule loss, extreme curling or cracking, structural damage to the roof's decking, or multiple areas of leaks. All of these issues could indicate compromised structural integrity that requires roof replacement.

Architectural shingles typically last between 20 and 30 years, though most homeowners should plan on replacing them every 20 to 25 years. While some manufacturers offer warranties for 30 to 50 years, especially for extreme weather, achieving such a long lifespan is rare. The actual lifespan can be shorter in areas prone to strong winds, hailstorms, or other extreme weather. It is recommended to replace your roof before it reaches the end of its life to reduce the risk of roof failure, leaks, and costly property damage. Scheduling regular roof inspections will help you determine your roof's remaining life and identify the best timeline for replacement.

Hip roofs tend to cost a bit more than other common styles of roofs. Because of the complex labor needs required to build a hip roof properly, you can expect to spend more on labor if you choose to go with a hip roof over a less complicated roof style.

Whether a metal or shingle roof is better for you depends on your preferences. Standing seam metal roofs require little to no maintenance, but if you install a screw-down metal roof where the fasteners are exposed, the gaskets on the fasteners will dry rot and need to be replaced. Generally, screw-down metal roofs need to be re-screwed every 15 to 20 years.

Metal roofs are energy-efficient and have extended warranties, while asphalt shingles are less durable than most. They tend to lose color and get damaged over time, and absorb heat from the sun.
