"Woodford Residential did an excellent job on our large (approximately 600 feet) fence. We've received many compliments on the fence from both friends and other tradesmen who have been out working on other projects for us."

"HDR exceeded my expectations. The crew cleared a very steep hill and worked extremely hard to complete most of the work in one day. After the debris removal, they made sure the entire yard was better than it was when they started. Hunter kept checking on the crew and the project to make sure all expectations were met. I'm very happy with the results of of the project and my choice in choosing HDR."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

A chain link fence typically lasts between 15 and 20 years, but with proper maintenance, it can last for 30 years or more. To preserve the fence, it's important to keep the mesh wire tight, which can be done with a come-along tool every 6 to 12 months. Investing in a fence with a galvanized, powder-coated, or vinyl-coated finish can increase its lifespan to 20 to 30 years and reduce maintenance needs, as these coatings provide extra protection against the elements.

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.

While cedar and pine are two of the most common wooden fence materials, everything from redwood to bamboo is also available. You can also purchase pressure-treated wood, which better withstands water damage and the threat of pests. The best wood for your fence will come down to your budget, local climate, and preferred look.

Wood fences provide privacy, security, and aesthetic appeal for commercial properties.

The most common height of a front yard fence is around 3 feet high, but it can vary depending on your zoning laws. If your fence is meant to create privacy, something closer to 6 feet or higher will do the trick. Most of the time, the highest fence you’ll see is 8 feet tall.
