Although the terms tree trimming and tree pruning are used interchangeably, they are very different types of tree maintenance. The life span of a bird’s nest depends on the type of bird building and occupying it. The process of building the nest can take anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. From there, the baby birds may need anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks before leaving the nest. While most birds will be grown enough to spread their weeks within 2 to 6 weeks, certain birds (namely predatorial ones) may not be ready for up to 2 1/2 months.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

Common signs that a tree is rotting include dead branches, a leaning trunk, peeling or cracked bark, leaf discoloration, and the presence of fungi. If you notice any of these signs, it’s best to hire an arborist near you to inspect your tree and determine if it can be saved or if it needs to come down.
