"Jeff, at Martin Services is a great deck builder. Very professional from our first meeting to the last day on the job. Jeff is very creative! He designed my deck, patio and remade a section of old fence. He designed my deck by listening to what I wanted. I don’t know how to organize outdoor spaces, so he listened and designed a great concept! He communicates when he is coming to work and follows through and really comes. I had a concrete pad that was laid by another business and long story short, it was placed in the wrong spot. So on day one, Jeff had to redesign our original plan. And again, he did not disappoint with creative problem solving! He never told me “that won’t work”. He always continue to find a way to do what I wanted by modifying my wants with the engineering and code requirements. I truly appreciate the effort that went into the deck to make my vision come to life. Plus!!! He also stayed on budget which is so important. His crew is respectful and kind. I always felt safe. They cleaned up at the end of everyday. And on the last day, they even stacked up the short pieces of decking that I wanted to use for projects. Speaking of short boards. Jeff designs the deck so that there is very little waste! Almost all the money you spend in product, goes into the size of the deck! If we need anymore work in the future, we will be calling Martin Services first."

"Throughout the summer, we've had him come out and do our lawn bi-weekly. On the initial visit, he took the time to ask exactly how we wanted it done and has maintained the same quality of service over the whole summer. He is approachable, kind, understanding and has an excellent attention to detail. We are hiring him for a number of other services around the house and wouldn't choose anyone else!

Fencing questions, answered by experts

You can DIY a stockade fence installation, but prepare to put in some good sweat equity. For the best results, carefully plan the exact location of your fence before you break ground. In particular, carefully map out your post locations before setting them in concrete. Be sure to call your local utility company before digging to avoid damaging underground wiring and causing severe injury.

On the other hand, installing stockade fencing on your own might sound too overwhelming. It’s certainly time-consuming and labor-intensive. Besides the hard work, you must install it properly to avoid gaps. Unless you’re confident you can get the job done right, hiring a privacy fence installer near you is the way to go.

Making a homemade pallet fence involves marking out the fence line and leveling the ground along it. Then, install metal or wooden fence posts that you slide the pallets on top of (two posts per pallet). Fasten them together with 2x4 wood boards that act as an extra layer, keeping the pallet fence secure.

Many types of farm fencing can work well for your farm, but it depends on the type of animal you need to contain and the size of your property. If you want something quick and temporary, go with a metal T-post fence. If you need something that will last forever, go with a synthetic fence made of composite material or PVC. Electric and barbed wire fences are often chosen for docile livestock, like pigs and cows.

A fence post set in concrete lasts anywhere from five to over 25 years, depending on how well the concrete was applied and the fence post’s material. Untreated wood posts in concrete could last less than 10 years, but a durable, treated wood set in properly applied concrete could last a few decades. However, all fence posts will wear out eventually, so expect to need to replace your fence post every five to 15 years.

For a chain link fence, the ideal distance between fence posts is 6 to 10 feet apart. Measure carefully to ensure even spacing, and resist the temptation to extend the distance more than 10 feet. Doing so could impact the stability of your fence.
