My name is Will Hendricks, Owner of 205 Home and Lawn Services LLC. The biggest dream of mine was always to start my own business. I decided to make this a reality in January 2016. I have always been into anything landscaping or construction related. My nearly four years of employment at Dunn Construction and Alabama Power and all of the knowledge I've picked up elsewhere have helped prepare me to start my own business. My main two goals are to perform excellent work and give an affordable price.

General Contracting business that specializes in custom kitchens & bathrooms. Residential remodeling company focusing on quality and the details. We are a licensed, insured and bonded business. Customer satisfaction is guaranteed.

"Billy Crews and WJC Building Contractors were hired to do a loft refinish. I paid a sizable downpayment and he did about two hours of work. He then stopped showing up only to tell me that he could not meet my timelines. I fired him and he promised to repay me what he took as a downpayment. He took the down payment from me in July. It is now Late November and I still have not received all of my money back. I have been lenient with him but he has stopped communicating with me at this point. I would steer clear from hiring him. We even had to redo the work that he completed in his two hours of work because it was not correct. Run fast! I am pretty sure Billy will once he gets your money!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

You can thicken new grass by using fertilizer, watering it 1 to 1½ inches per week, mowing when it is at an optimal height, and preventing weeds. You should fertilize your grass while you plant the grass seed, or soon afterward. Use an herbicide to prevent weeds or spot spray with herbicide to kill existing weeds.

If your grass is stressed from being over-trimmed, try watering it heavily and then allowing it to recover for at least two weeks before mowing again. If you notice brown patches where the grass has died off because it’s too short, you should remove the dead grass and overseed the area. Leaving dead patches can invite weeds and other problems, so if you want a totally green lawn, getting rid of dead patches should include removing the dead sections before reseeding the area.

Almost all lawns can benefit from aeration, but not all lawns need aeration services. If your lawn has puddles of standing water, uneven grass growth, thinning grass, dries out quickly, or has a good amount of thatch, aeration is worthwhile. On the other hand, if your lawn is healthy and your soil isn’t too compact, you may be able to skip a year of aeration.

It’s a good idea to aerate your lawn in the fall or spring when there is plenty of moisture in the soil. If you plan to aerate twice annually, you can do so once in the fall and once in the spring. You don’t want to aerate when your grass is dormant, and you also don’t want to aerate directly after a big rain, as the soil will be too wet for the aeration to be effective.

The frequency of lawn aeration depends on factors such as soil type, grass variety, and lawn usage. In general, it is recommended to aerate cool-season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass or fescue once a year during the fall. On the other hand, warm-season grasses such as Bermuda or zoysia benefit from aeration in late spring or early summer. However, it's essential to assess your lawn's specific needs, as signs of compaction and reduced grass health may indicate the need for aeration outside these general guidelines.
