"Max's Flooring did an amazing job on my backsplash! Max gave me some fantastic recommendations for my backsplash that made my entire kitchen look more open and bright! His team was very respectful of my home and did a great job on clean up. I have some upcoming tile projects and will definitely be using Max's Flooring again!"

"Brian contacted me right after I looked for someone on HomeAdvisor. He gave me an estimate over the phone from pictures that I sent him. We had quartz countertops that were installed improperly by someone else. There was a very large crack where two pieces of quartz were joined and had come apart. He does excellent quality work. He cleaned up after and was on-time. I could not have done any better and the finished product is absolutely perfect."

"This is the second time we've hired Bill Morin to do home renovations (brick kitchen floor - GORGEOUS bathroom install of a jacuzzi tub and porcelain tile on the walls about) and we just can't say enough good things about him and his family (Bill's son and nephew Russell). He is always on time, completely accessible at any time for questions and suggestions, good-natured and excellent at his craft. Basically Bill is a salt of the earth type of guy and you'd be stupid not to hire him. We are extremely happy with his work and will never use anyone else."

"Hunter reviewed our plans and made some additional recommendations. We still owned the process and he did his best to create our vision out of hardscape material. He was prompt to come out and gave a very detailed estimate, breaking down materials and service. There was no doubt what was included in the quote. There were other firms that quoted the project at a lower price that did not get the job because their quote was too ambiguous. When it came to the installation, they were prompt, detailed and clean. Within three days they were complete. At the end of each workday the cleaned up and left the site presentable. We received great value and great service. We are delighted with HDR Landscaping’s work and highly recommend them"

"We used Cahaba Building to do a complete kitchen and bathroom demo and to install new kitchen cabinets and island as well as a bathroom vanity. The new cabinets and vanities look great. We are very happy with the work."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of tile flooring can vary significantly based on the material and maintenance. Generally, tile flooring can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, but high-quality, well-maintained ceramic tile can last 75 to 100 years. To achieve a longer lifespan, you should clean the tiles and grout regularly, reseal the grout annually, keep the floor dry, and avoid placing extremely heavy items on it to prevent cracking. Choosing a high-quality tile (Grade 1) will also contribute to its longevity.

It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.

For glass tile, you want to use unsanded grout. Sanded grout is a stronger and grittier cement grout that is great for installing tiles with wider gaps and into joints. However, it is susceptible to scratching glass tile and is more difficult to use in thinner gaps. Unsanded grout, while more expensive, is easier to fit between thin gaps and is less harsh on delicate materials, like glass tile.

Tiling can be DIY with the right tools and skills, but challenges like ensuring evenness and appropriate adhesion often warrant professional handling.

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.
