"We LITERALLY bought our house with the intent to put a pool in the backyard. When we asked our realtor for the best and reasonably priced pool builder in the area, she referred us to B & J Pools LLC who was also completing her inground pool at the time we were house hunting. When I say I had a phenomenal experience, I mean it. We collaborated as a team to make my vision of what I wanted the backyard addition to look like and Bobby and his team made it happen seamlessly. I am in love with the finished product and the timeliness of the completion."

4-5 service employees, 7-8 construction employees. Hourly rates: 2 man pool $120, 1 man pool $90, spa $95.

"I have had Johnson Pools & Spas maintain my small, above-ground pool for 17 years. It was surprising to find so many bad reviews. That has not been my experience, as I am a happy, long-time customer. They have provided weekly maintenance pool service, which has incuded replacing motors and heaters. I’ve rarely had cause to fault their work. Repairs have been successful, and I always enjoy entering the sparkling, clean water in my pool. On some occasions, I have requested vacuuming when there has been a small amount of sediment at the bottom of the pool. They’ve always come as requested. My monthly bills are typically just under $200; pool closing & opening are under $500."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

Shocking your hot tub means adding extra chemicals to the water. Most spa experts recommend doing this once a week for proper hot tub maintenance, but you can do it more if needed. Shocking has multiple benefits, including preventing the water from becoming murky and it’s essential in removing harmful bacteria from the water.

Using bubble bath, bath oils, bath salts, or moisturizing products that contain butters or oils can damage your jetted tub. Because of the water pump and jet mechanism, you need to be more selective with products for a jetted tub than you would for a traditional bathtub in order to keep it functioning properly and avoid expensive repairs. These products also leave residue that can feed mildew and mold, so it’s best to avoid them.

Whether you can repair a hot tub depends on the severity of the problem and the location. With the right tools and knowledge, you can fix problems like small leaks or switching out a dirty filter. However, electrical and plumbing issues require a licensed professional due to the inherent risk, particularly when mixing water with electricity.

Algae-related green hot tub water is generally safe to use, as algae aren't usually harmful to your health. However, if the conditions in the hot tub are hospitable to algae growth, they may also be hospitable to the growth of other types of microorganisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, bacteria that can cause hot tub rash, or Legionella bacteria, which can cause respiratory illness.

Most hot tub motors can last between five and 10 years; however, hot tub motors can burn out sooner if the hot tub water is not maintained or if the motors themselves are not maintained or protected from the elements. Since hot tub motors (also referred to as spa pumps) power the jets and circulate the water, they are important for the functioning of your spa. Buying a quality motor, keeping the hot tub filter clean, and keeping the wet end of the motor wet and the dry end dry can help them last longer.
