"Fair. The owner did not have a firm agreement with the tractor driver so that price went up while the guy was waiting for the one dump truck to go empty and get back. The owner underestimated nr of truck loads to haul away, so the tractor man sat idle for long stretches. The workers pulled the wood forms up the same afternoon the concrete was poured so there are some large chips in the driveway edge. The major problem is the driveway is coming apart in one section and the owner won't do anything about it. A week after it was poured, a 4" by 6"(wide) hole appeared in the middle of one section. The concrete was soft at the bottom of the 2 inch deep hole. I called the owner and he said it could be fixed but I would have to pay for it. He wants more money to fix this faulty work and that is completely unreasonable. The section where the hole appeared is now surrounded by four additional smaller holes and they are crumbling indicating a faulty product. I sent pictures of the worsening driveway section but all the man offers is excuses. He has not even shown me the courtesy of coming to look at it. To me it is obvious there is a problem in an area of about 25 square feet. The concrete in that area is a weird color of black and brown and is cracking over the surface. All the rest of the driveway is very white in color and has no problems. This section will have to be cut out and replaced because the damaged area continues to spread and will only get worse. I will say the driveway looked good when it was poured and smoothed by the workers who worked hard in the heat. But it is coming apart in one section and has to be repaired. The company owner has photos which I sent him via text but he still won't even come look at it."

We are owner operated swimming pool construction company, specializing in gunite pool plaster finishes, tile installation, paver installation, concrete demolition, repair and installation, also plumbing repair. We have been in the pool business for over 15years, and operating in the lower Alabama area for the past 6years.

"John ******* the owner of the company scheduled an initial appointment with me on June 2nd 2020 at 3 pm. After taking time off of work to meet with him he texted me at 4 pm (an hour after he was supposed to be there) to reschedule for the following day. The first month went ok, but July and August were a nightmare. Constantly not showing up on the days scheduled, won't answer calls or text messages. It has been over a month since I have seen anyone for my pool. I have paid for services through September but have yet to hear from John or anyone else from this company. He is quick to send me a message for payment (which I have always paid promptly) but he won't respond when he is actually expected to do the job he was hired for. I do not recommend his services to anyone! I am very disappointed, because I went through Angie's List to get someone reliable and all I got was unprofessionalism and I'm out of money with nothing to show for it."

"I hate to resort to this, but have no other option since Tom's Pool Services will not respond to my multiple voicemails. I contacted Tom's to handle repairs for a listing under contract. The pool pump was not functioning, and the pool light was out. I asked them and another pool service for a quote on the work, as is the usual practice in a real estate transaction. Communication with them was difficult from the beginning. They sent someone out to the house, and when I followed up to obtain the quote, they advised that they had already repaired the pool pump, when I had not authorized them to do so. Later on down the line, they advised the buyers that they would not have repaired the pump but replaced it instead because it was so old, information they never advised me in the first place, since they had just gone ahead and fixed it without my authorization. This caused an major conflict in the transaction, but that's another story. Tom's Pool Service had advised that since there might be more wrong with the pool light than a burned-out bulb, they would need to drain the pool to below the light, and refill it, which takes a bit of time. I gave them the go-ahead to drain and fix whatever was wrong. Then followed two weeks trying to get them to go back out and repair the pool light. Every time I called, they complained about the amount of time it would take "doing nothing" while they had to drain the pool. Closing date was coming up and I began to call every day. Just as is happening now, I left voicemails that were never returned. When someone at the store actually answered the call, they were never sure when the repair might be done, but knew enough to complain (again) about the time involved to drain the pool. Finally they made it to the house and repaired the pool light. Then it was like pulling teeth to get an invoice from them, which the buyers required as proof the work had been done. My husband actually had to drive down to Navarre and wait more than an hour, advising Tom's Pool Service he would not leave until he had the invoice. They kept trying to put him off, but finally gave him an invoice when they realized he was not going to leave. I went to the house before closing and tested the light, which worked. The transaction closed. But wait, that's not the end. Last week the new owners called me to advise that the pool light was out again. When they called Tom's Pool Service, they were told that only the bulb had been replaced, but that there was corrosion and leakage that needs repair. WHAT?!? Tom's Pool Service had advised me that they needed to drain the pool in order to determine whether it was more than a burned out bulb, yet once they did this, they simply replaced the bulb and nothing else? They said nothing about it, and charged the seller $300, to boot? Here we were, thinking they had actually made the necessary repairs, when instead they charged top dollar for a slipshod job and said nothing to anyone until the new owners called them, at which point they blamed it on us, claiming they had advised us of the issue. They did, early on, when they said they needed to drain the pool to make sure it was properly repaired, and we told them to make the repairs, which ultimately they did not do Tom's Pool Service owes the new owners a proper repair of the pool light at no charge. NEVER will I use Tom's Pool Service ever again."

Pool constructions and installations FAQs

The average cost of an above-ground pool is between $1,100 and $5,700. Costs will vary depending on the type of pool you install. The low end of the price range includes a DIY kit for around $800 and goes up to about $15,000 for a custom pool with extra features like a deck and water features. Building an above-ground pool is much faster than installing an inground one. The cost tends to be much lower for an above-ground pool than for an inground pool because there’s less labor involved, especially when it comes to excavation and running plumbing and electrical lines.

Installing an inground pool costs around $55,000, on average. The typical price range is between $39,000 and $70,000, depending on the size and type of pool and accessibility of the site. This project requires an experienced pool installation contractor as the project usually involves extensive excavation, plumbing, electrical, concrete, and careful grading of the concrete or pavers around the pool.

Adding a spa to a pool is worth it if you use it enough. Adding a built-in spa to an inground pool can cost between $15,000 and $20,000, on top of installing the pool. A separate hot tub costs between $5,000 and $8,000. These prices will vary depending on the hot tub's size, type, and features. Additional costs include maintenance, electricity, and plumbing.

From start to finish, building an inground pool takes anywhere from two to four months. Factors that impact time to completion include any weather delays, material delays or shortages, scheduling conflicts, and any unforeseen challenges. The project may take most of the pool season, depending on where you live. Because of this, it’s a good idea to start getting estimates and finding a qualified pool company at least a year before your anticipated installation. Spring and summer is the busy season for pool contractors, which impacts their availability as projects are typically booked for several weeks if not months.
