Robert installed the liner as well as additional well points and did some patch repair before the liner went in. He did an excellent job. The price quoted and prices for additional services were all up front, there were no surprises. We were very pleased with the service, our new liner and how well Donna took care of us throughout the process. We would definitely recommend Gulf Coast Pools and plan to use them in the future.
On time and completed the change over to the new system with no issues.
The pool looks great and we haven't had any problems with it. The folks at Gulf Coast are always very responsive and helpful whenever we have any questions, and I would have NO problem recommending them to anyone.
Very highly recommended!
"The [member name removed]'s were a delight to work with! They turned their back yard into a beautiful sanctuary after the pool was finished."
Due to circumstances beyond Bill's control, which he was up front about, from the beginning....some original plans did have to be changed. Did Bill mention additional costs, yes, but would work to maintain as close to the original amount, as possible. (the additional cost was just $1010) Until the actual work begins on an old property, problems can not be foreseen as they would on a newly developing property. No surprises when new but always surprises with old, such as our underground sprinkler system which was from years ago.
Bill mentioned, depending on the water table, well points may be required. The original oval 16' x 32and quot; was not going to be possible so we switched to the rectangular. Rather then describe every detail of why and how some of the original contract specs were changed......let me say this and quot;never did I feel Bill was being dishonest or manipulativeand quot; . Bill was always quick to respond and explain, if there were any questions or problems. If I couldn't reach Bill, Donna was always available (even one weekend) to answer any question or find someone who could.
Before the project began, we were nervous wrecks, trees/shrubs to cut. A narrow dead end road which huge equipment and trucks needed to maneuver. Every crew that worked at their specific job, was as careful as possible, regarding our neighbors yards and ours. Was our yard chewed up? Yes, but to a minimum. There was no way all the equipment could do it's work without some yard chewing. The contract site specs say rough grading by cat, etc...
Each crew that came to do their job did so with expertise, professionalism and promptness. If I could remember all their names, I would mention each and say thanks for a job well done.
There were some minor details which needed to be taken care of, to include; a broken 2' x 4' on the fence and no caps on the stairs vinyl tacking strip. Anytime we asked re: something to be done, Bill and/or one of his crew would promptly appear. Each step in this project gave us more and more confidence, as we witnessed the amount of hard and precise work was required. Who would have thought it took so much time, so many people and such precision for 1 little swimming hole.
Since the enclosure was completed and we have enjoyed swimming in a pool with the salt system Bill recommended, all I can say is and quot;Tis a thing of beauty!and quot;. Writing out the check for the entire project upon completion was done without any hesitation.
Yes, I would highly recommend Bill Hansen and his Gulf Coast Pool and Spa crew to anyone who is looking for expert, prompt and professional work.
As I said and quot;Tis a thing of beauty.and quot;
"Yes, this was a nervous customer, but that's nothing new. It's really a delight when you have someone nervous, to watch that all disappear! This was another family we all grew close to. I am so lucky and happy to say that I think we have a wonderful customer base!"
"Thank you [member name removed]! Please call us if we can help you in the future."
Right before the installation I got a call from Bill. He said it was raining and asked if I had standing water in the yard. I said yes we have standing water in the yard and noted it has been raining for days. He then said that we could raise the pool by a several inches so that my pool would not get and quot;backflowand quot; of water running into the pool. He said it would be more cement but that this was a good opportunity with it raining to see if there was a and quot;water problemand quot;. I asked how much it would cost and he said, and quot;$1200.00and quot;. I was furious and asked to speak with him in person. We met and I explained that I wanted to cancel the contract. I pointed out that I wanted a firm quote and the price had been increased twice. I had put a $2,000.00 deposit down and requested him to return my deposit and we part ways. He said he already ordered a liner and that my liner was a special liner because my shallow end had been increased by two feet, therefore, he could not return the liner. I found that odd. He said that he had about 2,000 dollars in the liner. I asked if he was saying that he would not return my deposit and he said that he could give me the liner. *** When the pool was completed they didn't increase the size of the shallow end ** The special liner it seems was actually a standard liner that should have been able to be returned.
So my options at this point were, lose the $2,000.00 deposit (and have a pool liner without a pool), have a pool installed that I now find may have rainwater draining into it, or pay Gulf Coast Pool and Spa an extra 1200 dollars. I communicating my dissatisfaction and argued my point that he was supposed to be a professional and that he saw my property when he gave a quote. I was making up my mind and I said I wanted the extra cement at cost so that the pool was installed right. I asked what his cost was and he said 700 dollars. He agreed to raise the pool for an additional 700 dollars rather than the 1200. I said ok and reiterated that I didn't want another issue with price to come up. He said he wanted me to be happy and I told him I was far from happy. I was way past that.
When digging they hit some sprinkler pipes. He called and said it would be an additional 200 dollars over the 400. I reminded him of the $400 maximum. I really couldn't believe he was trying to squeeze another 200 dollars out of me. At this point I was really thinking of seeing my attorney because I thought this was plain bad business and a company should not be able to do this.
For my part I paid him. I expressed to him that I was not happy.
The pool quality was satisfactory but they left my yard a mess. When I viewed the sample pools they were shown with beautiful landscapes. My yard was a damaged and a mixture of dirt and rocks with big ruts. After I complained they had the sprinker people rake it out a little. It still was horrible. My yard was left an eyesore.
Part of the concrete washed out on a corner. I sent in pictures through email and I guess they forwarded the info to the concrete people. The concrete people were very nice and quickly addressed the problem. Here is an example of where I had to do the quality assurance rather than Gulf Coast Pools. If I had not pointed this out I very well may have had a problem later on.
The pool enclosure people did a fine job as well.
My main complaint was my yard being torn to shreds with cement pieces strung all over, and the owner constantly on multple occasions adding in additional costs.
The staff at the office and the lady who came to my house for and quot;pool schooland quot; were very nice.
They really didn't address any of my concerns about my yard. I sent a written complaint and heard nothing. It was an overall bad experience.
I would not recommend Gulf Coast Pool and Spa and would have had another pool installer if I could do it over.
Just honest feedback here....
"First off I would like to say that in construction of any type, unexpected expenses do occur. We do everything we can to prevent them, but sometimes they are unavoidable. Most homeowners are happy if we see what could be a potential future problem, and work with them to correct it. As far as landscaping, nowhere in our quotes or our contracts is there any mention of landscaping. We have “Rough grade” in the contract under site specifications. Rough grade is not sod or landscaping. We have never before had to expressly explain this as most homeowners understand pool construction is going to alter the back yard and that sod will have to be laid. We can’t lift the yard up and put it back down. Heavy equipment is rough on the yard and most homeowners are aware of that fact. The [removed member name] had just purchased the house where the pool was installed, and had not moved in yet. They had no understanding of the ground conditions and neither did we at the time the contract was signed. Before construction started we had a tremendous amount of rainfall, and due to the large amount of rain, we had concerns about the yard and the pool. We asked if he had standing water, they did, so we explained the pool should probably be raised. Otherwise during heavy rainfalls the excess water could end up in the pool. This was something that neither the homeowner nor Gulf Coast was aware of at the time the contract was signed. The homeowner agreed to raise the pool and he wanted to know the cost and we agreed we would do at cost, no profit. This expense was to pour over an existing patio. This was not nickel and diming. This was legitimate cost to alleviate future issues in heavy rainfall periods. Also this homeowner made changes at the time the concrete was being poured. The wife needed a price right then and my mistake was not realizing this was going to require engineering modifications for the enclosure. That was an 800.00 expense we had to absorb. They wanted dirt hauled off further than we normally haul dirt and had an additional expense with that from the driver. The sprinkler system we had estimated a cost of 400.00 Once again, until they got in there, we didn’t know what we would find. We had to absorb the difference on this also. If you want the contract price to remain firm, it also means you do not make any changes either. This was not the case and we ended up absorbing the cost on many of their changes. To think that landscaping would be included with no mention of it being anywhere in writing is a little confusing. We have not had this issue with any other customers, and we have been in business for 30 years. It seems a little naive for them to think that a swimming pool can be installed without altering the existing yard. Of course our pictures show landscaped pools, from very elaborate landscaping, to modest landscaping. Those are to give new buyers the idea of what can be done with their pool, but that has to be addressed, it’s not assumed. The contract clearly states rough grade and [removed member name]was adamant we stick to the contract. He did not want to spend any more than the contract price. Period. So are we suppose to again absorb the cost? If a customer asks us about landscaping, we have several landscapers we can refer them too. The landscaping around the pool is what personalizes it for that family. Most of our customers send us pictures after they finish landscaping so we can put it on our website. At this point we feel we have gone above and beyond for the [removed member name] family. The finishing touches on the landscaping are their responsibility. A contract is to protect both parties, the business and the consumer. We feel it’s a shame that after 30 years of business with an impeccable record Angie's and the Better Business is being used to get this homeowner something that is clearly not in his contract. Namely sodding his back yard."
They are always available and very responsive when we have a question, and are just basically all around very nice people. We are very pleased with the quality of their work, the pool looks great and we would recommend them to anyone here in the Pensacola area.
"Thank you Member for your positive response! We strive to make our service to our customers a positive experience. It also helps to have great customers to work with! We look forward to working with you in the future."
