"Keith was absolutely terrific to work with. We had an emergency fencing situation in January (my mother could no longer walk her dog and needed to fence in the backyard)...not a great time to need a fence in Ohio! The Fence Guy was one of the few companies that install through the winter as weather allows. Keith came out right away, earned the trust of both of my parents, stayed in constant communication with me and put in a fence as soon as could possibly be done. He did the work himself and it looks wonderful. We were so lucky to find him. Highly recommend working with Keith!"

"It took a few weeks to get this work scheduled but we finally got it done. The crew came out and quickly removed 4 bushes with stumps/roots, removed all debris and added new top soil to level off the area. I'm now looking to get a quote to build a porch!!"

"Skip and his crew at Elite Fence fulfilled all my needs and were great to work with. Skip came out on a Sunday afternoon in August to give me a free quote on how much it would cost to remove the old fence and put up the new one. He explained the whole process in detail and gave me a time frame for how long it would take. We agreed on a price which was very reasonable and he printed a contract for me on the spot which we both signed and dated. Skip and his crew arrived to start work on the date he had stated they would and completed the work in the 4 day timeframe that Skip said it would take. The job site was cleaned up every evening when they left and at the end of the job you would have never known they were there except for the new fence. The materials they used were top notch. They probably would have finished a day earlier but they did not like the quality of many of the fence boards so they would not use them. The substandard fence boards were returned to be replaced with boards Skip thought met his standards so the fence could be completed. Skip told me after the fence had been in awhile the gates may not shut properly because of "settling"so I should call him to come adjust them for no charge. He also gave me information on how to maintain the fence to extend its usefulness. I now have a great looking, secure fenced area for my dogs and myself to enjoy thanks to Skip and his crew at Elite Fence."

"Overall, we had a great experience with the owner, Correy and his crew. From the initial design concept to the completion of our project, everything went very smoothly. After meeting to discuss our project, Correy provided a well-designed, digital diagram that was very professional. We had a few changes, which Correy quickly updated and sent us a new design. The project started on time and the crew was punctual every day, and left the job site clean and tidy. We would highly recommend Fletcher Brick Paving for anyone looking to have a paver patio installed. You won't be disappointed!

"Outstanding; This is an excellent company to work with. I am extremely pleased with the installation of my BUCKEYE patio with the infamous BLOCK O. It is absolutely perfect and was completed right before the season begins. What else could you ask for. Life is good. Everyone, from the office personnel , to the estimator and the 2 crew members were courteous and very efficient. Even the last detail of clean-up was done so nothing remained. I will use this business again and recommend to whoever asks. Have a great day.

"Mike came at scheduled time and prepared everything for the puppy’s training. He spent time getting to know the puppy and expending some of his energy before working with him. He spent quite a bit of time working with the puppy and so far the puppy has remembered what the flags are all about. Mike reviewed the collar settings and battery replacement with us. He answered the immediate questions that we had and invited us to call with any other questions or issues."

"Luis at LP Fencing was fantastic. He texted me back same day I posted job on Angi. He came out a couple days later and immediately was prepared with tools to fix it same day. Wood gate works better than when it was initially installed. Will definitely be reaching out to Luis for our next gate, decking, drywall, or painting needs."

"Very happy with our decision to go with this company! We had two other companies out who just seemed like they were trying to make a sale. Jef came and provide an estimate, but actually took the time to walk through the pros and cons of multiple fence types so we could decide what was best for our plans and property. The install went well and the fence looks amazing! The installers took their time to walk us through a couple options that came up during the install. Michelle from the office was always responsive to my texts from beginning of booking install all the way through the post-install walk thru. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for professional, high quality fencing."

"They destroyed the old one that we attempted to put up. They hauled away the pile of rubble that was “supposed” to be a waterfall. They were on time, they were beyond courteous and helpful and quick. They did it in two days; they had it up in time for Mother’s day. The gates were kept closed; there were no cigarette butts on the ground. They let us know what they were doing. Jake talked to us several times before he got started so we knew what he was doing. I was very, very pleased."

Gate for Driveway or Security Installation and Replacement FAQs

Yes, most states require a fencing installer to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed fence installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Fence installers typically charge by the hour when working on a project. Typically, you can expect to pay around $50 per hour for fence installation. Your project might take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, depending on the length of your fence, overall project complexity, and fence type

The average cost to install a fence is between $1,760 and $4,500. These costs are what an average homeowner spends, but you might spend more or less depending on several factors. For a smaller DIY project, you might get away with spending as little as $430, or for a much larger project (like fencing for a 5-acre yard), you can spend in excess of $43,000.

Besides the size of your yard, other factors like your fence material, fence height, site prep, and additional fence features like gates all impact the overall cost. Additionally, the high cost of raw materials and manufacturing can all make the overall price tag higher.

Before you hire a fence installer to build you the fence of your dreams for your yard, it’s important to set expectations up front by asking questions. Some questions to consider include:

  • Do you offer a warranty?

  • Do you offer financing or a payment plan?

  • Do you have references?

  • Do you have photos of previous work?

  • What type of fencing materials do you work with?

Only some fences require a permit to build. Factors like where you live, how tall your fence will be, and where in your yard you plan to build all impact the need to have a permit. Below are a few examples of when a permit is needed; it’s always best to check with your fence installer to confirm if a permit is required.

Generally, if you live somewhere rural, like on a farm, there’s a good chance you will not need a fence permit. However, you will most likely need a permit if you live in a highly-populated area. In addition, many privacy fences in your backyard won’t need a permit if it is 6 feet or shorter. However, you might need a permit for anything over 3.5 feet in your front yard.
