Textured or older walls with years of wear can make matching trickier. Paint on these surfaces may catch the light differently or have faded unevenly. It’s a matter of personal preference on whether you want to tip the crew or the lead painter. You can tip the crew as a whole, just the lead painter, or each individual painter. Do what feels right in the context of the job.

The best ways to protect floors when painting depend in part on the type of paint you’re using.  When you’re using latex paint, most people will choose a drop cloth consisting of canvas, plastic, or heavy paper to protect the floor. If you are using oil-based paint, you may want to select a waterproof plastic sheet that will keep any paint from seeping through.
