"Jodie Machen is an outstanding workman and job manager. Our home is a old steel-baron era mansion from 1929. It needed a new roof and significant association flashing work. Jodie Machen was the perfectionist I was looking for. Not only did he do an immensely careful job, but he was thorough in his communication with me throughout, calling to touch base not just on formal aspects of the job, but also on convenience questions. His personal presence on the job made sure that his standards translated to his work crew, and together they presented a polite and professional group who I felt very happy to have around my little kids. I would unhesitatingly recommend this company! As an aside, Jodie Machen also fixed a difficult plumbing problem for us, so I suppose he would be great for other similar work as well!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

In Wheeling, most basement waterproofing projects take between 1 and 10 days, depending on the method and local conditions. Simple moisture control tasks like interior sealant application often finish in 1–2 days. Installing basement drainage systems or exterior waterproofing typically requires 5–10 days, especially with Wheeling’s heavy rainfall, clay soil, and older stone or block foundations common in the area.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Wheeling often decide between interior and exterior waterproofing, sump pump types, and where to direct drainage water—important with the city’s frequent downpours. You’ll also choose how to protect landscaping, move stored items, and select wall finishes. Input is needed for backup power options and for coordinating with local utility companies to ensure safe installation around existing pipes and wires.

Helpful?

In Wheeling, cosmetic waterproofing targets surface issues like efflorescence or minor wall stains, often using quick humidity control and crack sealing. Functional projects address water intrusion, foundation stability, and basement drainage—crucial in neighborhoods near the Ohio River or with older homes. These solutions take longer and may involve sump pump installation, exterior excavation, or reinforcing walls to handle local soil pressure.

Helpful?

In Wheeling, mistakes in grading or improper basement drainage installation can lead to water pooling and foundation movement, especially in clay-heavy soils. Failing to properly seal stone or block walls, skipping thorough crack repairs, or incorrectly applying waterproofing membranes can allow moisture back in. Drainage pipes must be sloped and secured to handle the area’s frequent storms and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles.

Helpful?

In Wheeling, immediate action is needed if you see water pooling after heavy rain, cracks wider than 1/4 inch, or musty odors signaling mold. These issues can worsen quickly with the region’s wet springs and freeze-thaw cycles. Minor dampness or small cracks can be monitored, but plan preventive basement sealing before the rainy season to avoid sudden flooding or moisture damage.
