"I recently had the pleasure of working with Upgrade Remodeling for a major bathroom renovation, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, their team demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. Ryan, our sales representative, impressed us with his logical and convincing sales pitch. He saved us valuable time by eliminating the need for multiple vendor meetings. His thorough understanding of our needs and preferences made the decision easy. The installation process was seamless. Alex and his team did an outstanding job removing our old bathtub and installing a beautiful walk-in shower. Their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the project. They were also incredibly respectful of our home, ensuring that the work area remained clean and unaffected. The finishing touches on our new shower were nothing short of perfection. "I highly recommend this company for its service, professionalism, and detail to workmanship. From start to finish, I felt like this company had our interests as customers at heart. It started with the president of the company calling to see if everything was starting on schedule and to our satisfaction. During the work, there were some problems, but they handled every single issue promptly, professionally, and to our total satisfaction. The materials and their choices were outstanding. The 2 bathrooms worked on look stunning. We had shower doors and a vanity installed and replaced in a guest bath, and in the master, we had a tub ripped out and a huge double shower installed alongside a linen/medicine closet and a double vanity installed. The floor was also redone. The materials we selected and their construction techniques and methods have created bathrooms we have always wanted in our home. We are completely delighted with the work and how it looks. Sean, our salesman, put together a perfect package with great deals for us. And as for the workmen: the guys on site, Tito, Mario, and Fernando are truly outstanding, hardworking, and highly skilled. They are master craftsmen. The man who helped design and install the double shower door--I think his name is Caesar--was efficient and created a beautiful showpiece. Everything was done promptly, and within 2 weeks from start, we had 2 finished bathrooms that we are delighted with. The early change to a new project manager, Alex, had a few bumps, but Alex worked hard to make sure that the initial bumps were overcome, and we were informed and the project was moving along the lines we had originally planned under his expert supervision. The staff is truly amazing. I have nothing but praise for them. Bravo and thank you!"

"not to good :( I felt I did most of the work by providing all the details floor plans and colors.  What I got back was only two floor plans and some websites to purchase living room deco and some paint samples. Not enough for the money I paid. It also took a month or so before I received these things too.

"Alford removed a carpenter bee damaged porch deck and replaced the 6 x 25 foot decking under the existing roof. The project was designed and installed with quality materials and professional workmanship. In the Charleston area, Alford was the most prompt and reliable company we dealt while trying to obtain bids for the deck replacement."

"Mr Machen has impressive skill with both removing difficult 1930's steel windows and installing replacement windows. He does an excellent job wrapping the exterior of the window with metal, resulting in a beautiful finished look. He is quite compulsive with insulation and caulking as well. He removed all the old windows and debris and left a clean job site. Couldn't ask for better work.

"He was awesome.  He called back, but he was working in Reed field, North Carolina and he could not get to us for a couple of days.  By the time, he got to us we had already gotten the other estimates, and we were pleased with him.  Hampton guy was great.  He was really quick to get back to us, but he had other projects that he had already lined up.  The experience was very satisfactory.  He was very courteous, and prompt.  He was very honest in saying that he cannot get to us, and if we needed to have this work done now, then we need to have to get somebody else.  I appreciated that."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Of the two most common and affordable bathtub materials, acrylic is notably better. Though fiberglass is cheaper, it is also more prone to scratching, chipping, fading, and cracking. Acrylic holds up better to wear and tear, cleaning, and sun exposure; the slight cost increase is usually worth the increased longevity.

While they’re heavier than their counterparts, cast-iron tubs are very simple to maintain. They have no seams and are durable, making them the easiest tub to maintain. While fiberglass and acrylic tubs are also relatively simple to maintain, they often have seams, making maintenance a little more difficult.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

If your bathtub is in overall good shape with minor scratches, discoloration, or just general wear and tear, it's best (and less expensive) to refinish it.

If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.

A standard bathtub can be used for soaking, but they tend to be shallower (between 15 and 18 inches deep). A soaking tub is designed to be deep enough to totally submerge yourself in the water (about 20 and 24 inches deep). Additionally, most soaking tubs are freestanding, while regular bathtubs come in various styles with drop-in, surround, and wall-mounted options available.
