"Bath Fitters end product was fine...but had to comeback for a full second day to redo shower walls not installed quite right. No extra charge but took a day out of my life. I am pleased with the final result"

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Upgrade Remodeling for a major bathroom renovation, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, their team demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. Ryan, our sales representative, impressed us with his logical and convincing sales pitch. He saved us valuable time by eliminating the need for multiple vendor meetings. His thorough understanding of our needs and preferences made the decision easy. The installation process was seamless. Alex and his team did an outstanding job removing our old bathtub and installing a beautiful walk-in shower. Their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the project. "After a super sales job by Dana on Oct 5, 2020, we expected the job to be started in approx 8 weeks (it was on Nov 23, 2020) and that the crew would stick with it until complete. The crew was very good and polite. They kept to themselves upstairs in the master bath (due to COVID and they wore masks) and worked hard to demo our old bath and prepare for the new install. The Kohler shower with a rolling glass door was completed without issues. We only received one of the 2 vanities we had ordered and received the wrong light fixtures for above the vanities. They did install the waterproof LV floor, which is very nice and what we selected. We waited for the second vanity (decided to go with the style of the first one installed, for expediency sake) and the correct light fixtures to arrive and then get the crew back here to Radford, VA. The foreman Memphis did make several local trips to get the wall paint, the ceiling vent/light, and the towel/robe hooks we would order originally but were not included in materials brought. Four weeks from start to (not quite) finish. The bathroom looked great and we were happy and paid the balance of the cost of the bathroom upon completion, on Dec. 18, 2020. Approx 2 months later we had a leak in the under-vanity plumbing which damaged our living room ceiling. Evidently, the nuts under the vanity were not installed tightly enough and it dripped until the under sink slide-out drawer was full and leaked out of the back of the vanity down the wall to stain the living room ceiling. We shut off the water source to the vanity until the crew came again to inspect and by then I had discovered a fine crack in the back corner of my vanity, which had to have either arrived that way or happened during install. That has to be replaced. Memphis looked at the leak and asked if we had any Primer. We did, and he painted the spots (L-shaped discoloration). The stains are still there as the primer did not cover the stain Waiting on the new vanity AND the entire living room ceiling to be repainted. Jim Plecker came on April 1 to view the damage and see the crack in the vanity top. He said that the new vanity would be ordered and he would have the crew back to install the same and repaint the ceiling. It is May 9 today and I have not heard back. I am waiting and will add an addendum to this review when the job is truly Finished."

"not to good :( I felt I did most of the work by providing all the details floor plans and colors.  What I got back was only two floor plans and some websites to purchase living room deco and some paint samples. Not enough for the money I paid. It also took a month or so before I received these things too.

"Alford removed a carpenter bee damaged porch deck and replaced the 6 x 25 foot decking under the existing roof. The project was designed and installed with quality materials and professional workmanship. In the Charleston area, Alford was the most prompt and reliable company we dealt while trying to obtain bids for the deck replacement."

"Mr Machen has impressive skill with both removing difficult 1930's steel windows and installing replacement windows. He does an excellent job wrapping the exterior of the window with metal, resulting in a beautiful finished look. He is quite compulsive with insulation and caulking as well. He removed all the old windows and debris and left a clean job site. Couldn't ask for better work.

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

While Medicare will pay for some bathroom modifications, it won’t pay for all modifications done to help make the room more accessible for older adults. Plus, the improvements must be approved in advance, or they won’t cover the upgrade. Check well in advance of construction if you have coverage for grab bars, walk-in tubs, wider doorways, higher toilets, and more.

The plumbing industry has standardized the sizes for bathtub drains. They are 1 1/2 inches wide to fit all standard bathtubs from 14 to 26 inches deep. The standard sizing is to ensure that the drain fits into the P trap, a special part of your piping that prevents sewer water from bubbling up into your home (yuck).

The time it takes to install a bathtub depends on the type of tub, the condition of the existing plumbing, and the installation's complexity. A new bathtub can be installed in four to eight hours. However, this can take longer if any additional plumbing work or bathroom modifications are needed.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

The impact of a walk-in tub on home value depends on various factors, including market demand, demographic preferences, and overall home features. While some buyers may view it as a desirable accessibility feature, others might see it as a niche amenity, potentially limiting the pool of interested buyers. However, it could add value if the walk-in tub meets specific needs or enhances the property's appeal to a target demographic. Ultimately, its effect on home value varies case by case, with factors like installation quality, design, and neighborhood trends playing roles in determining its impact.
