"Scott came out to our house a couple of times to dial in exactly what we wanted. We went with Watry because they were the only certified James Hardie certified installer in the area.   Our house is barn style house and over 5000 square feet with some unique angles, so we wanted the best.  We signed the contract, gave him the deposit and Scott ordered the material.  When the materials arrived they came out and ripped off the existing siding and gutters and wrapped the house in insulation.  We ran into some weather problems which caused some delays, but not too bad.  He had a great crew come out and put up the new siding.  You could really tell they knew what they were doing.   With the weather delays the entire project took about a month, a little longer than planned, but they kept us informed every step.  Scott and his team do a great job."

"Great! Kevin was on time, efficient, and fun to talk to! One comment ... I had purchased the opener separately, but when Kevin arrived he told me I could have purchased a slightly better opener with installation from JD Griffiths for just about the same price and a better warranty. I was tempted, but kept the opener I had purchased due to time issues. (Kevin really DID NOT PRESSURE me at all.) If you're considering a new garage door opener, you might want to check ... I'd highly recommend JD Griffiths!"

"Chris was very thorough as we discovered some mold after the demolition was done. Chris took care of that also which added extra time to the job as he wanted it to be treated multiple times before putting the drywall back up. When we wanted some more sanding done Chris did not hesitate to accommodate us and the outcome was great. Chris also did the painting and made sure we were happy before collecting the final payment on the job. I will be using Chris in the future for an insulation project.

"Prompt, reliable service. Owner was easy to work with and foreman with his colleague were courteous and efficient. Since it was a nice day, my windows were open and I could hear their conversations and problem solving...this was all done very professionally. Before they left they cleaned up the area (spotless) and provided recommendations for keeping the gutters clean. Do not hesitate to hire this company."

"When it came time to revitalize my home, Casablanca Painting was sub-contracted to repaint every room.  Ben, the owner, and his crew were professional, courteous, worked cleanly and finished the job on time and on budget.  Casablanca did everything possible to organize the job to make sure my elderly mother was not inconvenienced.  I was so impressed with their work that I contracted directly with Casablanca to repaint the exterior of my house and the screened in patio.  They dry walled the garage walls and ceiling and painted the floor with industrial grade paint.  Again, I was delighted with their work.  This year I hired Casablanca to remodel my ugly yellow concrete hole called the basement.  They turned it into a living room, bedroom, half bath, combination laundry and hobby room and a large storage room.  All I had to do was help draw up the design, pick out materials and answer questions.  Casablanca handled everything else.   On top of that, they called in a roofer who gave me a great price to put on a new 30 year roof.

I just had my home  inspected and appraised this month.  The inspector could not find one thing wrong with my home.  He said "the work done on this house was excellent.  I could not find on thing that needed to be fixed or changed."  By the way, I was also delighted at the increase in the appraised value.

I will be using Casablanca Painting exclusively in the future as the general contractor for my rental properties.

"Overall the job went very well. The work started when promised and went a little long but the job was extensive so no problems. All of the work was done by hand thus minimizing environmental damage by heavy machinery. The workmanship was of high quality. One challenge we faced was a slight language barrier, but we work through it just fine. I would definitely recommend them for small to medium sized concrete work.

"Great to work with. We had already had a foundation architect come in, so we knew exactly what needed to be cone. Gaidish didn't try to add anything else (that happened with 2 other companies) and did exactly what was recommended. They were a pleasure to work with. We were also under a time crunch due to home sale, they were respectful of deadline."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

This answer varies based on where you are, but most states require that all homes are greater than 320 square feet. Remember that four walls are not the only requirements—windows, closet space, minimal ceiling heights, and indoor air quality are also factors. Each state and municipality differs, though, and as some don’t consider tiny homes permanent shelters, you’ll need to check to ensure you aren’t violating any local or state laws with your build.

Rustic and modern farmhouse styles are currently the most popular. These include rustic and antique furniture, muted colors, clean lines, eclectic decor, and natural materials. Some other popular farmhouse styles include the following:

  • Coastal farmhouse: Creates a lighter, airier feel with soft colors and blue palettes, along with gold

  • Colonial farmhouse: Focuses on real antique furniture and decor

  • French farmhouse: Leans on French country architecture and design by including marble and lighter-colored metals, like zinc

  • Industrial farmhouse: Includes thick, chunky furniture and dark metals

  • Scandinavian farmhouse: Usually includes lighter wood colors and more refined furniture

It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.

Choose a barn door with an extra two to three inches on either side of the frame. The width of the barn door will depend on the type and placement of your track, but in most cases, an additional inch or two will do the trick.

Complex plumbing is tricky and expensive in an off-the-ground dwelling like this. By considering options like composting toilets, rainwater collection, and gray-water sinks, you save money and help the environment.
