"When I contacted C&G Painting Company LLC, Carlos provided a same-day estimate for painting the exterior of my brother's very neglected house that was built in 1939. The crew arrived the day after we agreed on the price, power-washed the house, made repairs as needed, and painted the house. How they managed to make the house almost look like new is a miracle. Professional painters usually use at least two coats of paint when adding a new color. Depending on the surface they’re painting, painters may apply a primer coat before two coats of paint. Ceilings, trim, and baseboards typically get one coat of paint applying a fresh coat of the same color.

In most cases, you’ll need at least two coats of eggshell paint. This is a good rule of thumb to go by if you’re painting a wall or ceiling. Make sure each coat has ample time to dry before you apply the next one.

Most projects take 3-10 days, depending on the size of the space, drying times, and number of coats required.

In some cases, you may be able to skip the primer and paint over old paint. If you’re painting over paint that’s in good condition and is a similar color and finish to the new paint, you probably don’t need to use primer. If the old paint is dark or uneven or the wall has stains or damage, you’ll want to apply primer before a new coat of paint.

You can use either paint thinner or mineral spirits to clean paint brushes, but both have distinct advantages. Paint thinners are better solvents, making them a good option if you need to clean your brushes quickly or if you are dealing with dried paint, which mineral spirits can’t remove. On the other hand, mineral spirits have less toxicity, less odor, and lower volatility. It is safer to use indoors and doesn’t evaporate as quickly if you need to leave the brushes to soak.
