Terrible, but they made it right

A crew of 3 or 4 men worked on the house for three days from 8:30am until 4:30pm . Each day the area was cleaned up and all equipment stored under cover. Many hours were spent scraping the exterior of crack and peeling paint..The house was carefully masked to prevent overspray, and caulked where the original builder left gaps. The quality of work I felt was outstanding and I would not hesitate to hire them again. The crew was also very friendly and very accommodating.

Empire Painting has done several projects for us, and theyALWAYS exceed expectations. A very classy organization!

Empire did a great job. The price was on the higher side, but the quality was also high. Their lead guy Jason was very responsive, polite and willing to address any of our concerns. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

Jason and his crew did an excellent job. This was the third time we painted the house. The biggest difference was that Empire was much more meticulous with the prep work. All areas were scraped and primed as needed. Crew was careful around landscaping and painting was carefully completed. Would hire again in a heart beat.

UPDATE: The contract and office contact person went well. BUT...the Lead Painter was an obnoxious and confrontational liar who would not do as the company asked. We reported him to the company, he was investigated, and no longer works for the company. This is why I want to amend my review, they took action against this person who made our life hell. They asked if we are pleased with the final results of our painting project. First, the final contract as written was great, and you were easy to work with. Unfortunately, it became very clear that things we talked about, and items in the contract, may have not been clearly communicated, or accepted, by your Lead Person. It was apparent right away that things would not go well, when the ground was totally covered with paint chips from the prep work (the contract indicates that the team would "cover ground thoroughly in all work areas"). The biggest concern was our air conditioner unit was filled with paint chips. I tried to clean them out, and found that I could not get into the unit without taking it apart, I showed the Lead Person, and he agreed there would be too much involved for us to try, so I need to call a Technician to clean it out. When my wife went out to complain ablout the paint chips, the Lead Person, when he finally returned, did not care for the confrontation and threatened to pull off the job. This happened several times, even to me. We felt we could not ask any questions, as the Lead Person seemed to view any interaction as confrontational, and became offensive. Indeed ,by far most of the time we went out to see the painters was to ask if we could get them anything, do they need water, etc. By Empire Paintings own recommendation, Duration paint by Sherwin Williams SHOULD NOT BE USED, as it woul peel and flake. You recommended Resilience by Sherwin Williams, we agreed, and that is what was placed in the contract. Imagine my shock when I went out after they left the first day, AND CANS OF DURATION WERE ALL WE COULD SEE! THEY PAINTED WITH DURATION! When I told you of this problem, you first said don't worry, Duration would be good, it will just fade faster. When I forwarded your email vehemently against Duration, you then said they would sand the Duration off, and paint the side of the house with Resilience, as contracted. We though everything would be good... When the painters arrived Monday, the Lead Person dropped them off, and left. We were fortunate that a Foreign Exchange student we had in the past was visiting, Josue, and knows Spanish. We went out to see how they were doing, and cans of DURATION WERE OPENED, AND BEING USED! When Josue asked the painters on the ladder what they were using in their buckets, and they said Duration! There were 2 cans of Resilience in a box nearby, unopened, and Josue asked if they were using that, and they replied they did not know anything about that paint. I talked to you, and you said you would contact the Lead Person, and make it right. The Lead Person returned, and after about 10 minutes we went out to see him. He complained that if we kept "interfering", he would pull off the job. The Duration cans were still open, and so were the Resilience. He insisted that they were only using Resilience, which we all know for sure was untrue. When I asked if he started sanding the old Duration off yet, as we did not see a sander anywhere, he was startled. I inferred that his boss indicated that he was to sand off the Duration, he became extremely agitated and offensive, and strongly indicate that "sanding would be too much work, if we are to sand, we will pull off the job". I told him he needs to call you, and if he did not do as you asked, and we agreed to, I would be forced to see a lawyer. He blew up, saying over and over that I was being "inappropriate". We heard sanding for about 2 minutes, that was it, so again, THAT part of the job was obviously incomplete. There is an obvious disconnect between the painting team and the main office, who is giving the orders. The rest of the day I went out about 4 times, ONLY to ask if I could get them anything, water, or whatever. The painters left on Monday not even saying they were done, they just left ( never seen that before). Some woodpecker holes were missed, some new boards were not calked, paint all over the windows, and paint chips in the air conditioner. We will take care of all these things by ourselves, and get others for the woodpecker holes (too high) and the air conditioner paint chips (needs to be cleaned by a technician). The most horrible experience we have ever had with a contractor. Thanks

Was great to work with Dan and get his team to come over in a fairly quick manner to paint about 16 of our windows. They had to sand down the wood trim, seal it, then paint it and make it look like new. Terrific job!

I had a good experience with the estimate process and felt my project was adequately scoped. Price was a little high compared to other estimates but they seemed to be worth it. After having the work done, I don't think they were. Getting the work scheduled required too much back and forth. When the painters came, they needed to match an existing color and initially got it wrong but were able to correct it. Quality was fine but did not match the price.

I am very happy with the quality, professionalism, and responsiveness of Empire Painting. Their staff did a great job making sure we were going to be happy with the results. The painters were professional, friendly, and polite and did a great job! I would definitely use them again for any future work.

It was all very professional from the initial quote to the final inspection. Painting was done on time and as scheduled. We are very satisfied with Empire and the work that they did. Our house looks great! Thank you to Empire and to Angie's List for the recommendation.

The crew from Empire was professional and did an excellent job. They invested a significant amount of time preparing the home for painting. We also appreciated the color consultation and excellent communication.

Empire Painting did a fabulous job making our 100-year-old house look great again. There were lots of issues: cracked plaster, water stains and damage, 100-year-old windows, several lofted ceilings. They did a great, very professional job with all of it, all while being considerate of our need to use the house as much as possible while the job was in progress. This was a paint job preparatory to listing the house for sale, and they succeeded in making the interior look fresh and new while keeping the cost and time to a reasonable level. The other thing we really appreciated is that they were totally responsive - a sharp contrast to a number of other painters we contacted. Dan came to look it over and had an estimate to us within about a day or two; then he paid a second visit to discuss some questions and had a revised estimate to us the next day. Jenna is very helpful and always answers e-mails within a few hours. The painters came and left on time, even in very challenging weather, and the job was finished several days before when they had estimated it would be. They did not even ask for payment immediately after they finished - they gave us another week to live with the job, then sent someone out to do any touch-ups we thought were needed. We would - and already have - highly recommend Empire to anyone who wants a reasonably priced, professional job from a company that bends over backward to make sure the customer is satisfied.

Overall, very pleased with Empire Painting. They worked around my schedule, were professional, timely and did a quality job. I have already contacted them for additional work.

Found Empire on Angies List and was 100% satisfied with their work. Eddie our painter was on time and respectful of our space. He did a wonderful job painting our master bedroom. Empire made sure I was 100% satisfied with their work and came back to do touch ups after the original paint job was complete.

Painters were very professional and worked quickly. Arrived early for the day they were scheduled and cleaned up everything before they left.

Great! Very responsive. Estimate reasonable. I wanted a quality job and got it. Took about a week due to some weather issues. Workers were prompt and polite. They cleaned up every day they worked and took care with our landscaping. Had some clapboards replaced. It's been about two and a half years and the house still looks great.

Dans 2 man crew showed up right on time Friday morning, we talked about what was going to be done and verified with me what I had in mind and colors on the trim. Everything went very well, they worked start through the day without even taking a lunch break. I was very happy with the finished job. And I will be having them back when it is time to have the entire house painted.

The project went very well. The original date was pushed because of unusually heavy rain season. When the window opened up, they were out promptly to get the job done. They took their time in preparing the surface, where others wanted to just power wash the house and paint, they did any necessary scraping and applied caulk where needed. They did not rush through the work, but took their time and made sure we were happy with the results. Dan did a great job in reviewing what they would cover, Jeff did a great job in finishing off the front door, taking the time to do it right. They replaced 2 engineered wood boards beneath windows Any spots we found after they were done we quickly and happily taken care of by Jeff. I am glad I picked Empire to perform our services and will do so again when the need arises.

Wonderfully accommodating in fitting us in even though our remodeling project was extended with our remodeling contractor. The project involved mostly brush work and the quality exceeded our expectations. Jenna and Dan are were fantastic to work with throughout.
