Small jobs welcome

"I have a 27 year old home with a 3 car garage. The garage walls were drywalled, but never taped or mudded. Never painted. I recently decided to finish the garage and searched for a drywall finisher, finding Midwest Remodeling and Cody. Cody was prompt in visiting and quoting the project. After agreeing on pricing, the start date was set. To save time, I’ll condense. Cody showed up each morning and worked through the entire day for 4.5 days. Never stopped for lunch or breaks…I was quite impressed! He did very nice work and put in extra effort. I am more than happy to recommend Midwest and Cody 110%! I would definitely hire him again!"

Offers commercial services

I am newer to residential construction and remodeling and am currently looking for general labor and small home-improvement jobs in Northeast Wisconsin. I have hands-on experience with drywall, demolition, plastering, concrete work, siding, trim, window and door installation, and general construction assistance. I'm comfortable taking on smaller projects within my experience level and am always willing to learn. I have many of my own tools and carry commercial insurance. I'm dependable, willing to work hard, and happy to discuss your project to determine whether I'm a good fit.

"Very professional, reasonably priced and does outstanding work. He was able to straighten our not so great drywall/mud attempt by laying out what he was able to do to remedy the situation. I am beyond thrilled with the results and am looking forward to working with him in the future. Highly recommend."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

Yes, it is possible to rewire a house without removing the drywall, but this doesn’t work in all homes. You can pull out old wires and insert new ones if you have access to the wiring system via the ceiling or through a crawl space. Some pros can also use a magnetic kit to fish the old wire out of the wall through a hole cavity and install the new wires. Just keep in mind that doing this is less stable than removing drywall, as you won’t be able to staple the wires into the framing.

Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. However, this doesn’t mean the job is done because plaster doesn’t fully harden until it cures, which can take a few days to a couple of weeks. It may take even longer if you’re building a new, pretty thick plaster wall. Allow the plaster to cure before painting it.

Yes, cabinets are installed over drywall. The drywall must be in good condition, and you must ensure that the wall can handle the weight of the cabinets. Secure the cabinets to studs and use proper anchoring devices, like toggle bolts.
