"Prompt, reliable service. Owner was easy to work with and foreman with his colleague were courteous and efficient. Since it was a nice day, my windows were open and I could hear their conversations and problem solving...this was all done very professionally. Before they left they cleaned up the area (spotless) and provided recommendations for keeping the gutters clean. Do not hesitate to hire this company."

He was very professional and sensitive to my needs by offering me options that allowed me to stay within my budget. He communicated his tenative plan and finished the job on time. C&S was very efficient, professional and knowledgeable. In less than a week after putting in my request, I have a beautiful new floor in my master bathroom and kitchen. Thanks for the great service!"

"Because we did not know the date for moving into our new house with much lead time, I was not able to call Tim Garvey at Fox Valley Cleaners until just over a week before our household goods were scheduled to be delivered.  He promised he would be able to clean the carpets throughout our house prior to the move-in date.  He met me on the first evening I was available to provide a quote and his crew came to the house the next evening.  They arrived 15 minutes early, were very polite and pleasant, and clearly explained the work they were going to do.  They paid attention to detail and did thorough, high quality work.  It was clear that everyone involved took pride in their work and was committed to customer satisfaction.  I would highly recommend Fox Valley Cleaners."

Backsplash Installation FAQs, answered by experts

If you’re handling your tile removal yourself, seal the room using painter’s tape and heavy-duty contractor bags to prevent dust and shards from escaping. Use a claw hammer or a pry bar and a mallet to get behind the tile and pry it away from the floor or wall. Once your tiles are all removed, sweep everything into contractor bags for disposal, being careful not to overfill them. Make sure you wear a dust mask, safety goggles, and work gloves to keep yourself safe from injury while you work.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Yes, you can install a backsplash directly onto drywall, provided the wall is properly prepped, clean, and dry. For best results, especially in kitchen areas, your walls should be made of moisture-resistant drywall, often called green board. If your current wall isn't moisture-resistant, it's recommended to replace it before installing the backsplash. For even greater protection against water damage, you can remove the existing drywall and install a tile backer board or cement board instead. While properly installed standard drywall is typically strong enough to support a backsplash, some local building codes may require water-resistant materials in kitchen areas, so it's a good idea to check.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.
