Concrete lasts much longer than cement, as it can withstand heavy loads and harsh weather conditions. Concrete can last for over 100 years under most conditions. Cement cracks and crumbles when used independently, but it is an important ingredient of building materials such as concrete and mortar. You use cement and other ingredients to make concrete.

Pervious concrete should be between 4 and 8 inches thick to drain water properly. Surfaces like parking lots and driveways should be at least 6 inches thick to accommodate the weight of vehicles, while patios and walkways may be poured between 4 and 6 inches thick.
