"My elderly mother hired Miro (owner of co) to remove wallpaper and paint various rooms in her house. Only a couple rooms required the wallpaper removal first. She received a quote from Miro via email. Once Miro and sometimes an employee started, it became more obvious at how unprofessional he is. In removing the wallpaper, they did not use any type of remover product to assist with releasing the adhesives of the paper, but instead just scraped and pulled the paper off the walls, causing extensive damage to the wallboard/drywall. Then since the damage needed to be patched (we are not talking about small spots), they proceeded to patch the walls over and over (all the while complaining to my Mother, the homeowner that he "hated this house" and "how much more others would have charged her for this job" and this complaining list goes on...). After the patching we would expect sanding of those surfaces to have been conducted to make the walls smooth again, however, it appears that the patched surfaces have NOT been smoothed out so once paint was applied, the walls look like someone took plaster practice throwing against every one of those walls! It LOOKS TERRIBLE!! The painting was not applied properly either since cut-in areas around woodwork and corners messed paint on EVERY piece of wood trim and painted over bathroom caulking! He did NOT USE TAPE to mask off any of the woodwork and if he was that confident that he had that steady of a hand to not necessitate the taping off, then we should not have all of the trim edges with paint all over them! He did not even properly wipe any of it off. There also was paint spots on the carpets, in spite of using dropcloths too. He left the job on the last day with the promise to come back to finish attaching towel racks to the walls, but my Mother had to repeatedly call him to get him to come back to do it with him either being a no-show or not returning the call for days. She finally got him to come back to do that and pointed out some of the most extreme bad work (a hole in the wall needing to be patched and painted along a baseboard, paint on carpets, etc.) and told him she expected him to fix it and do it right. He reluctantly did only the quick fixes she pointed out with him complaining and again trying to make her feel guilty and bad. NOT PROFESSIONAL!!! It is also important to note, that since the job took longer than he anticipated, he rushed the rest of the job that he did do and did not paint two remaining rooms that were on the quote and never mentioned even doing them. However, my Mom paid more than the full price on the contract because he presented her with a higher invoice and since she felt bad that the wallpaper removal was so difficult for them; not knowing that they did not do it (prep the walls) correctly in the first place. She now needs to hire a different contractor to come back into the house to redo and fix several of the rooms to see if they can be restored to appear like nice smooth painted walls again. She is glad to be rid of this contractor and will NOT recommend him ever again."

While the terms deck and porch are often used interchangeably, they are two distinct home features. Porches offer a roof that protects from the elements when coming and going from the house. Generally, porches are on the front of your home. On the other hand, decks are generally built in the backyard of a home and offer no roof or protection from the elements, like rain or snow. Porches typically require less maintenance and upkeep thanks to the roof, but both features require regular cleaning and repairs to maintain good condition.
The cost to build a deck is $8,025 on average. However, this cost can range anywhere from $1,500 to $22,000, depending on multiple factors, such as size, materials, and deck type. You can expect to pay $30 to $60 per square foot when building a new deck.
Cedar decks are often the most cost-effective option, ranging from $4 to $9 per square foot for materials. However, pressure-treated decking, which is resistant to rot, is more expensive, ranging from $15 to $25 per square foot for materials.
Yes, adding either a porch or deck (or both!) to your home can add value. Both of these features add character and curb appeal to your home, but even more importantly, they add an element of convenience. Plus, these home features create additional square footage of living space to your home. Adding a porch onto your home can give you a return on investment (ROI) of up to 84%, while adding a deck can provide an ROI of up to 80%.
Several types of porches are available to meet your needs and style preferences. Some common porch types include:
Porticos are essentially a roof over a walkway leading to the home's front entrance.
Sunrooms are closed-in porches that are an extension of the house with glass or plastic panels that allow optimal sunlight.
Wraparound porches extend around the entire home, or at least the front and one side, and offer multiple entrances to the house.
Back porches are an extension of the home’s floor into the outdoors. These offer more protection and privacy than a deck.
As with patios, there are many types of deck choices to choose from to add personalization to your home. Some common deck options include:
Attached decks are anchored to the home and include simple ground-level options or multi-level structures with stairways and separate landings.
Detached island decks are not attached to the home; they’re a freestanding structure in the yard.
Wraparound decks connect the back of the house with at least one other side and often are built with railings for safety.
Multi-level decks connect your deck through varying levels of elevation, featuring landings that are attached to stairs.
