"Thermal Comfort exceeded my expectations for scheduling my project, and the quality of their work is excellent. They did a great job of protecting everything prior to application, and the cleanup was done well. As a retired architect and professional engineer, I expect and watch for quality, and was very pleased with this company. I recommend this company to anyone requiring a foam insulation project of fine quality and a good value."

Small jobs welcome

"Tyler was the first to respond to an Angi List search, came the next day, and told me that my attic insulation, while not perfect, wasn't in need of adding more. I appreciated his honesty, even at the cost of losing a contract. I recommend this company based on honesty."

"These guys came out right away, gave me a fair price and did the job great ! The toughest part was removing old insulation, getting it out of my house and cleaning it all up. They did all that and sealed up my basement tight ! Using their foam insulation they filled in all gaps. And they did it in one day ! We now notice our house stays a little warmer and no more mice ! Kyle and his crew were fantastic and I recommend them highly. -- Alan B - Sun Prairie"

Customers say: Quick response

"Specific project was attic, dense pack, and foam insulation. Very clean, friendly, and professional crew. Took the time to explain what they were doing, why, and what was wrong with what they found. Did a Focus on Energy assessment along with this work, recommended by Premier North, to make sure we let the science dictate the work. Very impressed with my overall experience."

"Rick removed the existing box sill insulation (batt insulation) and replaced it with 3” thick spray foam closed-cell insulation. The purpose for our project was to eliminate the areas mice were entering our basement from the numerous holes in the old batt insulation. Rick did an outstanding job keeping the work area clean in our basement, showed up on time and was very responsive. Thank you for the great work"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. If the leak is persistent, the drywall becomes totally waterlogged, or mold begins forming on the drywall, you should remove and replace it.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.

If your home’s foundation shifts slightly over time, any seams in the drywall represent the weakest point in the wall, leading to cracks. If your home has significant changes in temperature and humidity, this can cause the drywall to swell and contract slightly, causing a crack at the weak point of the seam. If your drywall installer did a poor job securing the panels to the wall studs, this could cause a weak layout and cracks in the seams.

Yes, taping inside corners is a critical step in the drywall installation process.  Properly taping inside corners is essential for achieving a professional look, and an installation that resists cracking and maintains its integrity over time. Taping the corners involves the application of a joint compound along the seam where two drywall pieces meet. This process provides reinforcement, conceals the seam, and prevents future gaps or cracks from developing.

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.
