"Cory and his crew called back, came by and cleaned up 2 medium sized stumps 21” and 17” diameter. Both stumps were sticking up like giant sore thumbs. Now my yard has nice flat spots and ready for grass seed . He’s very communicative and professional, and oh so reasonably priced. I’m keeping his business card bc when I need him next, Schwake will be the first one I call. I highly recommend him for yard cleanup, tree care, and storm damage removal."

You can use herbicides to prevent roots from growing without killing the tree itself, however they must be used with caution. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the root and can kill off problematic roots. However, herbicides can sometimes negatively impact nearby plants, so the solution is best used sparingly.

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. You can find pruning paints and sealants for trees, but you shouldn’t use them on a topped tree. Coatings like these often inhibit the tree’s healing process. An important exception is if there are dangerous fungi nearby that the tree is particularly vulnerable to, like oaks and oak wilt. Sealing cuts can help prevent fungi from taking root.
