"I worked with Minnesota Kitchens for a full kitchen and dining room remodel. After doing some extensive research and comparing quotes from various contractors, I decided to go with Minnesota Kitchens. Their quote was right in line with other contractors, but what sold me on using them was their timeliness in getting back to me with their final quote/estimate. After our initial meeting, I received my estimate the next day. We then tweaked and modified a few things to get to the design and price that I was comfortable with. Tessa, their designer was a dream to work with in helping me find the ideal style and aesthetics, for my kitchen, that I was looking for. During the process, each contractor did their work in a timely manner and always left the work area clean and orderly after they were done. Any questions or issues that came up were dealt with in a timely manner. Even though the project ran over the expected timeline, I’m very pleased with my new kitchen and dining room space."

"I never contacted the provider or used this service in anyway. I have to
write this review so that the request to write this review stops
popping up.
The rating is bogus as it is required to be able to submit.

"They did a good job. She had to submit like a photo but my daughter had them work on the central are of the loft. The deal was for one room. She got a lot of good ideal from her and it was worth it for her. They were professional and I did not hear anything negative."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.
