"First, they were recommended to us for the whole house generator by home depot.  We were so happy with the generator that we had him do a bathroom fan at my house and a bathroom fan at my son's house.  I did some checking and that was a reasonable price.  With the work he did, it was more than reasonable.  The job was a little more involved than he thought it would be and he didn't have any problem with any of it.  Without anything to judge the pricing from, other than online and a couple of guys I had come over who weren't on the same page as me, I'd say excellent.  The quality was top of the line.  As soon as he got the generator, he got over here to put it in. As a matter of fact, I am thinking about calling him again for something."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

A major mistake during generator installation is underestimating the power needed for submersible well pumps and heating systems. Homeowners in WI also incorrectly assume natural gas is available, but the area relies entirely on propane. Placing units directly on the ground without a proper concrete pad leads to frost heave damage. Always ensure exhaust vents have proper clearance to prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup from heavy snowdrifts.

Helpful?

Completing generator installation ensures your home remains safe during severe winter weather in Elcho. Because rural distribution lines are vulnerable to ice storms, outages last for days. A backup power source keeps your heating system running, prevents frozen pipes, and powers your well pump so you have fresh water. This upgrade provides essential protection for seasonal cabins and residents with medical equipment needs.

Helpful?

Older converted cabins in Elcho feature undersized electrical panels that complicate generator installation. If your home sits on a pier foundation or shallow crawl space, routing fuel lines and electrical conduit requires extra weatherproofing. Long distances between the ideal placement spot and your main panel demand deeper trenching. Additionally, properties near lakes must adhere to strict shoreland zoning regulations regarding permanent pads and fuel infrastructure setbacks.

Helpful?

The success of generator installation depends heavily on a proper concrete pad built to withstand deep frost lines in WI. Without an elevated, frost-protected base, the unit will shift or become buried in snow. Your propane system must be configured for extreme cold-climate operation to maintain pressure. Properly weatherproofing all conduit penetrations and installing a correctly sized transfer switch ensures your system functions safely during extended outages.

Helpful?

Prioritize generator installation immediately if your Elcho property relies on a well pump and propane heating, or if you leave a seasonal cabin unoccupied during winter. The outdoor installation window is narrow, as ground work becomes impossible once frost sets in by November. You should wait until spring if the property is strictly for summer use or if you already have an adequate portable unit and proper transfer switch.
