"Todd Szada at Umbrella Environmental was awesome! He recommended that we get our vinyl tested for asbestos prior to any attempt at removal - the logic being that if the material did NOT contain asbestos, there would be no need to remove the material. He promptly visited our residence soon after we reached out and obtained a sample, had it tested and let us know that the vinyl did not contain asbestos and there was no need for removal. He saved us a great deal of money and simultaneously sacrificed additional business to help us. Todd is a consummate professional and we are very grateful we found him!"

"Rob is AMAZING! He has removed vermiculite, re-insulated and removed asbestos for me at different locations in Dodge and Jefferson County over the years. As a realtor it is important to have someone you trust to refer clients too. GREAT COMMUNICATOR, SHOWS UP IN A TIMELY MANNER, AND HAS FAIR PRICING. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone."

"I needed a fence removed in my back yard. Skyler and his crew removed the cement settings for each fence post by hand so as not to affect power, cable lines. They filled in dirt all along the fence line, and had some extra dirt for me. I would hire them again. Brian S-Port Washington, WI"

"I cannot say enough good things about Rich and his crew at Custom Craft Environmental. After having our sump get overwhelmed by 7+ inches of rain, we were lost. Made several calls to "national" water clean up companies with no reason. Rich was at our house 2 hrs after we called and his crew was there the next morning. They were efficient, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, punctual. Price was good and work was excellent. We highly, highly recommend."

"Great! It's been a month and haven't seen a bite since. We had been getting a few bites sporatically for months but never found any signs of bed bugs until I finally saw a single one crawling and captured him in a jar. Before calling Affordable, we'd had Terminix out to do a free inspection and the guy didn't bother to look very thoroughly or find/point out where the little creeps were hiding but recommended treatment anyway for almost twice as much as ABBE. So I ignored his follow-up email and called Affordable instead. The specialist was on time and so kind to me and to my downstairs neighbor (we both received the treatment to be safe) when we were feeling stressed and a little traumatized by the situation. Within 10 minutes of inspection he was able to find where the bed bugs were camped out in a crease in my headboard and let me take a picture to send to my husband. That alone gave me confidence in their services. After he left, I let my bed bug prisoner out of the jar to crawl around in some of the spray along my baseboards and put him back in the jar to test the effectiveness. I relished watching him become less and less lively and by the next day he was definitely 100% dead. Sweet revenge! Thank you so much to Affordable Bed Bug Exterminators!!"

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

Regulations require certified professionals for removals and disposal in compliance with local and federal guidelines, ensuring safety and legality.

Whether or not to buy a home containing asbestos is ultimately a decision for the homebuyer, and there are several things to consider. When in good condition and contained, asbestos is unlikely to present a health risk—it’s when those tiny fibers are loose and airborne that they become a problem. Consider any renovations you plan on doing to the home that could disturb existing asbestos and the cost of removal. If an inspection finds asbestos in a home on the market, you could negotiate with the seller for a lower price, though this isn’t a sure thing.

Yes. Gutting a house to the studs may actually be a good option if you believe a home contains toxic materials like asbestos, mold, or lead paint. However, this must be done under the supervision of licensed remediation experts.

Abatement focuses on immediate hazard control while remediation encompasses a comprehensive cleanup and long-term safety strategy. Abatement refers specifically to reducing or eliminating the immediate hazard by removing or encapsulating it. It’s a targeted approach aimed solely at controlling asbestos risks. Remediation is a broader term that involves the entire process of addressing contamination to restore a safe environment. Remediation can include abatement, decontamination, air quality testing, and post-cleanup monitoring.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
