"They are very professional and upfront about what needs to be done. They were good about explaining why our original siding failed and what was done to correct the problem."

"I was contacted by Todd from Umbrella Environmental after leaving my information for asbestos removal contractors. Todd was able to quote me from photos and information I provided him via text exchanges. This was admittedly a small job, but Todd was patient and took the time to answer all of my questions. The holidays were hectic as they often are so we sat on the quote a bit. When I did follow up I was told they had an opening for Friday, Jan 3, so I jumped on it. The crew, Steve and Heather, were thorough and professional yet had the personality to keep things light and interesting. Communication was great throughout and the invoice was for the quoted amount even though there was a bit more work involved than anticipated. I can't recommend Umbrella Environmental enough."

"DJK Environmental did a great job removing asbestos floor tiles and mastic in my basement. All the work was done as promised and everyone I talked to at the company was professional and courteous. The price was reasonable and they even came out on a Sunday to complete the work. I had a tight deadline and they were booked out a few weeks - but they found time to meet my deadline. Highly recommend!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can mount shutters to vinyl siding. Depending on the weight and material of choice, you may need more fasteners or larger fasteners to secure the shutters onto the vinyl surface. It’s also important to locate studs or drill into the window frame when installing heavier shutters to best hold the weight of the shutters if you opt for composite or wood shutters.

Brick and stone are the most durable and longest-lasting siding materials, often lasting for 100 years or more with proper maintenance. Copper is another material known to last over 100 years, though it can develop a greenish patina over time. Zinc is a metal siding that can last 80-100 years. While these options are the most expensive, they offer superior value and longevity. For a more affordable yet durable choice, stucco can last 50 to 80 years in dry climates. Fiber cement siding is another excellent middle ground, offering a lifespan of 50 years or more with low maintenance at a lower cost than stone or brick.

Vinyl siding is durable, low-maintenance, weather-resistant, and available in various colors and styles. It also provides excellent insulation, improving energy efficiency.

To clean painted aluminum siding, use a mixture of mild detergent and water applied with a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose to remove soap residue. For stubborn stains, cleaning aluminum siding with a power washer on a low-pressure setting can be effective. But avoid using high pressure, which could damage the paint.

Traditionally, you place a layer of ⅜-inch foam board beneath aluminum siding. This gives you a smooth surface to which you can fasten the trim and siding. Beneath the foam board, you should have some kind of waterproof sheathing to further protect your home from water damage. It’s possible this sheathing is already under your current siding.
