"Level Headed Mudjacking is excellent! They not only leveled most of our driveway but they referred us to an excellent concrete company to replace the lower part of our driveway which was crumbling. On the job, Level Headed added some mudjacking which was not in the original proposal at no additional cost and eliminated the ground downspouts which had caused the major amount of damage to the concrete. We have a restored driveway now, thanks to them. Previous estimates called for a complete removal and replacement which would have cost upwards of $25,000. The combined work cost less than one-third and should last 15 to 20 years. Many thanks to Sam Abraham and Level Headed as well as Mark Bilot and Mark's Concrete. These professionals know what they are doing and their work is of the highest quality."

"I hired Gaidish to install drain tiles in my basement, replace wooden beams with steel ones, and replace my cement laundry tub with a fiberglass one. The work went well and my basement has been dry since the work was completed. The replacement of the laundry sink took a little longer because the plumber wasn’t available but I didn’t have to wait too long and it was worth the wait! This company was very honest about the extent of the work that needed to be done as opposed to another company that tried to scare me with a HARD sell tactic."

"The project came out much better than I ever thought it would. We had pulled up the carpet and tile on the basement floor and it had left a black mastic that we could not get up. We did not want either tile or carpet back in the basement in case of any water leeks. Although  A O Handy is in Wisconsin, they assured me that it was not a problem for them coming to Chicago for the work. They ground down the cement floor in the basement (about 1000 sq ft) to remove the mastic and to level out some floor. In addition, they filled holes with a cement that matched the existing floor. They applied a clear sealer to the floor. While they were there, they suggested that they seal the concrete floor in the garage. Since they had all the materials there already, the cost would be significantly lower. Made sense to me, so I had them do that also. In that I had put most of the things from the basement in the garage, preping the garage was a huge job. The guys helped me clear out the garage and were a big help, especially with the heavy things. The only down side to the project was the odor from the sealer. The garage odor cleared out quickly, but it took weeks for the basement to air out since there was so little ventilation there. The finished results: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE??..

"Overall, the work they do on the basement is fine. They were a little rough on several bushes I had out front and the lawn, but did fill low spots with dirt and seeded. They did nothing with the bushes. Showed up to do the job when they said. I was stood up two times by Brad: the first time on the initial estimate and the second time for a walk through just before starting the job. I confronted Brad on not showing up and blamed it on being busy with other jobs (didn't have a cell phone?). The job was started on a Monday and was to be completed the following Friday. They couldn't pour concrete because of rain. Brad wanted to be paid in full before the concrete was poured. I was reluctant. Brad then said he would pour even in the rain just to get paid on that Friday. I ended holding $1200 until the following Tue when he did pour the cement. The work they do is fine. Promptness in returning calls or showing up for appointments is poor. But a triple A+ on collecting the final bill."

Concrete Mudjacking questions, answered by experts

Mudjacking is your best bet for leveling concrete on a tighter budget. It’s less expensive than foam or grout mixture. For smaller, surface-level issues, you could also use a self-leveling compound, which creates an even surface over existing concrete—it’s a budget-friendly option suitable for DIY enthusiasts.

There is no real alternative to underpinning, although mudjacking and polyjacking are other repair methods that can add support from underneath your foundation. Rather than placing supportive piers under your structure, these involve pumping a material under your slab to lift a sunken section back into its original position. Polyjacking, in particular, is sometimes a suitable solution for stabilization issues under slab foundations, but underpinning is often accepted as the best and most permanent solution.

A good slump height really depends on the project, but there is a use for nearly all slump levels. For example, low slumps are best in projects that require structure, such as curbs and roads. High slumps often require additional reinforcement, but they flow more freely into hard-to-reach spaces.

Generally speaking, push piers—or steel piers—are the best option for underpinning, as they reach down to solid bedrock to find support for your foundation rather than relying on soil, which could be subject to the same issues as the soil directly below your foundation. However, the best underpinning method for your home depends on your location, how far down the bedrock is, and the type of soil in your area. Helical piers are usually the best option for sandy soil or in areas where the bedrock is too deep to use steel piers.

Most projects take 1-3 hours, with immediate usability after completion.
