It’s a good idea to wait at least 24 hours after opening your pool before you swim in it. Pool opening often involves shocking the water, and the chemical levels need to come down a bit before it’s safe to swim. You can continue testing your water pH and chlorine levels if you’re in a rush. It’s wise to wait until your chlorine levels drop to under four parts per million (ppm) and you have a water pH of between 7.2 and 7.8. You can artificially lower your water pH to speed up the process.

Certain pools serve as a middle ground between traditional swimming pools and hot tubs. The two main options are plunge pools and swim spas. A plunge pool (or cocktail pool) is smaller, but you can add spa-like elements such as heating and jets. A swim spa is more similar to a hot tub, but it produces a current that allows you to swim in place (similar to how a treadmill lets you run in place). 

You can check if your pool is bonded by looking for a copper wire that connects to the motor and pumps and then extends into the ground. A reading of 40 psi or below is considered low. A leak, a nearby water shutoff, or several other reasons could cause this. 

If the water pressure isn’t a problem, you could have a low flow rate from clogs, corroded pipes, or other plumbing issues. It’s best to call in a local plumber to get to the root of the issue.

Draining a pool with a garden hose can take between eight and 14 hours depending on the depth of your pool and whether you use a sump pump. Be sure to stay close to the pool during this time to ensure the structure of your pool remains unharmed and that the water drains properly.
