This process doesn’t necessarily require soap or detergent, but it definitely helps. Does the water in your taps sometimes come out very slowly? If so, you might have problems with low water pressure in your house, and your pressure washer won’t effectively clean. To test if your water pressure is sufficient, time how long it takes for the water from your hose to fill a 5-gallon bucket. Usually, if it takes less than two minutes, you’re good to go.

Before pressure washing, you can spray your deck lightly with a deck cleaning solution made of equal parts oxalic acid and water. Oxalic acid has a brightening effect that will lighten mold stains and return the deck to its original freshly-sawn look. Allow the solution to sit for about 20 minutes before pressure washing so it has time to take effect.

While some pressure washers, when used at lower settings, are ok to use on tires, we suggest proceeding with caution. While the high pressure alone won’t cause damage to your tires, pressure washers emit high-frequency pulsations that can damage the tires’ sidewall cords. Using a medium-bristle brush and soapy water is a better bet if you want to keep your tires in tip-top shape.
