"Krispy Clean did a wonderful job cleaning my carpets and in a very timely manner. The staff was friendly and responsive. My only warning would be: When they give you a quote on the phone it may not be the same as when they arrive and measure. I have wool carpet and there was a significant difference in pricing, almost double. I had taken the day off to accommodate the carpet cleaning so I did proceed. The carpets look great, but I think I paid too much."

"Mike, with Floor Shine, was priced affordably, was extremely reliable, and exceeded expectations! I hired him from out of state to clean my elderly mother’s carpets and tile grout. "In spite of the fact that home advisor totally messed everything up because I wasnâ t looking for carpet cleaning I was looking for someone to evacuate water from my carpet after a bad storm. I tried to call and speak with the supervisor at home advisor I was put on hold for a long time and then was hung up on. Their customer service is totally subpar and I wouldnâ t recommend home advisor to anybody. Iâ m reporting HomeAdvisor to the Better Business Bureau."

There aren’t health dangers to sleeping in a room where the carpet was just cleaned. In some cases, strong-scented detergents may trigger allergies in sensitive people, but otherwise there’s not much to worry about. 

A greater concern is walking across damp carpet, which is undesirable. To air out the room and help the carpet dry, it’s a good idea to stay off the floors for about 24 hours if possible. If you’re cleaning carpets in the bedroom, you may want to make alternative sleeping plans. 

You can clean some mattresses with a carpet cleaner that has an upholstery attachment. Mattresses made out of memory foam or other foam generally should not be cleaned with a carpet cleaner, although many traditional spring mattresses can be cleaned this way. To maintain your mattress and keep it fresh, you should aim for a deep clean at least twice a year. In between deep cleanings, it's a good practice to vacuum the mattress surface regularly and spot-clean any stains as they occur. Remember to launder the protector regularly, as some dirt and sweat can still get through to the mattress.

The best solvent for removing carpet glue depends on its chemical composition. Most carpet glue reacts well to a solvent made from orange oil. Use mineral spirits to remove tar-based glue, which has a darker, brownish tint. Methylene chloride paint stripper and lacquer thinner should also work, but beware of the nasty and dangerous fumes.

You’ll need to decide which cleaning treatments and methods are the right fit for your rug. Depending on the rug material, age, and the amount of traffic it gets, different treatments to consider include:

  • Stain removal: $10–$50 per stain
