A drain tile test can be performed on any leaking basement. If you are a homeowner or buying or selling a home and a Realtor, Foundation Consultant or a Home Inspector noticed the signs of your basement leaking you need to call Reed’s Independent Drain Tile Test LLC. (414-499-4450) I perform a drain tile test on the inside and outside of your home. We open up holes in your basement floor to visually inspect your inside drain tile. We will run water through the system to see where the water flows, and check for any blockages. We drill a hole in the core of the basement block by inspection holes to see if water comes out, or if there are any debris in the block. I replace the drain tile and stone that I have taken out and patch the basement floor back with cement. I will test the outside drain tile with a water-spud if possible. I will give you a written report at the end of the test stating the condition of your drain tile and the repair that is needed. You can then call a contractor and show them the report so they know the condition of the drain tile. I am not a contractor so I do not do any repairs.

"Based on recommendations we used Reeds to assess some water issues in our basement. We were extremely satisfied with their work, and even more importantly their honesty and integrity. They were thorough, informative, and diligent in their work. We now much better understand the basement drainage system, what our issue is, and how to have it addressed so that our contractor can do just what needs to be done and nothing more. Money very well spent on a company that is honest, experienced, and friendly. Fully recommend."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you can’t connect to an existing sewer line, but this is specific to new builds and additions. For example, if you add on to a home or build an ADU, you'll likely have to install an entirely new sewer line. In most places, connecting new lines to an existing line is not up to code. As such, most new home builds or additions will require proposals for an entirely new line from the construction site to the sewer.

Yes, ammonia does damage pipes if used or disposed of improperly. Although ammonia-based cleaners are commonly used to unclog drain pipes, they either come already diluted or instruct the user to dilute them before use. Otherwise, undiluted ammonia is too caustic and could corrode certain plumbing types, such as PVC.

A chipped bathtub could leak over time if you don’t take care of the issue. A tiny chip isn’t a big deal but may eventually grow into a larger crack. As the months go by, the tub’s barrier against moisture becomes weakened, making it prone to leaking. Large chips can also cause the tub to rust and even crack in half.

Water backing up in your bathtub could be a clog in the bathtub drain, but it could also signal a problem somewhere else in your plumbing system. Blocked vent pipes caused by leaves, bird nests, or other debris,  along with blocked sewer lines that are damaged or have tree roots could cause backups in various fixtures.

You can use a water gauge to check that water pressure, which should be between 40 and 60 PSI. If you don’t have a water gauge, you can also time how long your showerhead takes to fill up a 1-liter container. If it takes longer than 6 seconds, you’re dealing with a case of low water pressure.
