"Nothing but exceptional! A Cut Above to our rescue once again in an incredibly timely fashion (noticed by our neighbor and they will now call A Cut Above). A huge limb came down in our back yard and landed on other trees and close to our fence. A Cut Above immediately took care of everything - never a worry. When they were finished, no one knew they were here. A clean, immaculate back yard and driveway. If all business and people would have as much good old fashioned pride, respect, and customer service as A Cut Above does how nice things would be. We thank them again so very much!"

4 employees. No subs. Charges an hourly rate of (as of $50 01/04/2006). No travel charges. No extra charge for 24 hour service. Additional DBA - Mike Meyer Landscape Construction & Lawn Care. Additional contact name - Michael D Meyer.

"Mike did a great job. Due to weather this work had to be delayed until early December, but the results were great. In order to finish up before the first snow, Mike spent several hours prepping dirt and laying sod in the rain with temperature in the low 40's. We've also used him for other jobs in the past, and highly recommend his services."

4+ employees. charges based on size of purchase; 1/4 cord-a full cord or truckload. stacking prices: face cord $45—half cord $60—full cord $100. call for delivery time and pick up pricing. coupon in the yellow pages.

"We've been buying our firewood from Wisconsin Firewood for many years, and have been consistently pleased with the results. They've always been on schedule, dropped the wood in the correct place, etc. This year for the first time we paid to have them stack the cord of wood we purchased. The two guys who came out could not have been more professional, friendly, or courteous. They actually exceeded our expectations by collecting the odd pieces and putting them in (our) buckets for us to use for kindling ... and then swept the driveway! One note: I'd recommend staying away from the "mixed hardwoods" - it burns OK, but you'll get all kinds of odd shapes that can be difficult to stack. It's well worth paying the extra money for a specific wood mix such as "oak/ash" which comes in very uniformly sized pieces."

"Do Not buy topsoil at Mavroff on Watertown rd. It is all clay balls, rocks and foreign matter. I had them dump a load in the back of my pick up truck. When I was shoveling it out I kept thinking I would get down to the good stuff. There is no good stuff! I went back and asked for my money $20 back so could I could buy bags and fill in between the clay balls. He said No because it is his supplier that is at fault. How can get grass to grow in this stuff? He also said that he can’t be responsible for what people use his topsoil for - many people use it for fill. ?"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

The main benefit of topsoil is that it enriches the soil with nutrients that help your plants and garden grow at a healthy rate. Topsoil improves how well your soil drains water and gives it a more fertile texture, so that not only do you get better planting, but weeding is also much easier.

Top up your gravel driveway whenever water starts to pool in areas. This is bound to happen over time. You can be proactive and top up your driveway at the start of the warm season, and then check on it throughout the summer, particularly after heavy rainfall. Every few years, you should consider installing a new, clean layer of gravel—and that’s a good opportunity to install a layer of landscaping fabric before doing so.

Many suppliers offer installation services, either directly or through reliable subcontractors. Discuss these needs when ordering, as they may require additional scheduling or payment.

The best equipment for moving large rocks from your yard depends on their size and weight. A heavy-duty wheelbarrow or a rock dolly can be effective for smaller boulders. A skid-steer loader or a mini-excavator with a grapple attachment provides the necessary power and control for larger, heavier rocks that you can’t lift manually. Professionals may use a larger excavator and ratchet hoist to remove larger boulders.

Yes, pea gravel is good for driveways as long as your driveway isn’t built on a hill or any type of slope where it can slide. It’ll settle on a flat surface and create a suitable driveway over time, though some spreading initially will take place. If you're wondering how to make a gravel driveway in a high-rainfall area, using pea gravel could help you to cut down on costs needed for extra drainage solutions.
