"I did work for servpro as a subcontractor. They mismanaged the project from the beginning, creating an unhappy customer from the beginning which made our job very difficult. Our work was done to high standards and was fully completed and inspected. Servpro was paid in full months ago and still refuses to pay us even though the customer asked them to pay us in full. Now we have to lien the customer's home even though they paid in full. It is our only recourse to be paid. The owner bullies his subcontractors and I personally witnessed him bullying two different customers. I would avoid servpro as I would the plague."

"We arrived after the home inspection had been done and he walked us through everything he inspected. With the things that were found wrong with the house, he explained what he would have fixed and why. He was able to recommend several companies that did the type of repairs that were required. When we did quotes, we called a couple others, as well as the ones he mentioned. His came in at the best rate and did a nice job. The hone inspection itself was thorough and he pointed out some things that we missed in our initial viewing of the home."

In many cases, yes, a damp basement can be bad for your health. Not only can damp air affect your lungs, but it can promote mold growth and pest infestation. Mold spores can be dangerous to breathe in, as can waste particles from insects and rodents attracted to the moisture. Damp, moldy air can also move up into your living area. Mold grows quickly. It typically begins to grow on drywall about 24 hours after exposure to moisture or humidity. Drywall is a porous material, which makes it particularly hospitable to mold growth. 

While mold growth begins after just a day or so, it can take a few weeks before the evidence becomes visible. Mold spores will typically appear on the drywall surface within three weeks of growth starting.

PVC is not considered a hazardous waste in most areas, but regulations vary by location. If in doubt, you should contact your local sanitation department to confirm. The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) has been working to get PVC classified as hazardous waste, so it’s possible that it will be considered as such in the near future. If it is, disposing of PVC will require the use of a hazardous waste disposal facility or transporter in your area.

Wood tables are susceptible to mold growth, especially if they have been water-damaged. In fact, anything made of wood in your home—from tables and chairs to cabinets and floors—can grow mold since wood is both an organic material and a porous one. Major flooding and water damage are likely candidates for mold growing on your wood table, but it can also happen simply if the wood table is in a humid environment.

You can kill the mold with a proprietary cleaner, or simply a diluted bleach or even cleaning vinegar or dish soap. Always wear gloves, protective eyewear, and a face mask when dealing with mold.
