"The painter did an outstanding job on both my trim and multiple rooms throughout the house. The attention to detail was impressive, especially the crisp, clean cut-in lines—everything looks flawless. I couldn’t be happier with the results!"

"Our living room had very old wallpaper that my husband attempted to remove himself. After discovering how difficult and time consuming it was going to be, we called Majic Painting. They were very responsive about giving an estimate and quick about scheduling the work. Mark was very professional and friendly and did the work quickly without leaving a mess. It was definitely worth the price we paid. I would use them again.

"2 guys came out, but one was inexperienced and another was more experienced - I didn't mind, but I purchased a specific amount of time and they were very slow. They tacked on a second day and charged us an large amount for the second day. I spoke with the owner, who mentioned that they don't make money during the big deals, but use the deals as a way to get in the door and make a profit by doing extra work. I probably won’t use them again."

"Ben did a great job! We ran into some issues: there were 5 -yes 5- layers of old shingles, and flashing issues because of it. Ben is very honest and would highly recommend him.

"The project is now being completed. It took a while to get together to schedule this job, but Annie is a hard worker and is in the process of completing the job to my satisfaction. The project is taking a bit longer than anticipated due to the condition of the walls after the wallpaper was removed. The removal was done in record time, and I can't wait to see the finished look. I will submit another review upon completion of the project. The project was finally completed on Saturday - 1/20/07. Annie and her partner completed the faux finish on both walls. They also reinstalled the railing on the stairwell and the doorbell."

"Mr. Upham was prompt and kept to the schedule we planned on - all of this work was done in just 2 1/2 weeks. He and his employee were here every morning on time and left every day having cleaned up afterward and never stayed past a certain time to insure our family time/dinner was not disrupted. He was always polite. His work was excellent - his ability to paint straight edges along the "bullnose" corners was great, as well as the straight edges by our tray ceilings. He wanted always to make sure we were happy with the work that was done - and we were!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Textured or patterned vinyl wallpaper designs are the best option for hiding imperfections. Embossed designs or faux finishes like brick, wood, or linen textures are especially effective at camouflaging dents, cracks, or uneven surfaces. Avoid smooth, shiny finishes, as they can highlight flaws rather than conceal them.

To layer wallpaper over wallpaper, inspect your existing wallpaper for problem areas. Damaged wallpaper should not be covered. If it’s okay to proceed, prep by turning off the electricity and removing any outlet and switch covers. Dust your walls and lightly rinse them to prevent the existing paper from peeling. Apply primer, then apply your new wallpaper.

To determine how many rolls of peel-and-stick wallpaper you need, measure the square footage of the walls you’re covering and divide that by the square footage that each roll covers. Add 10% to 20% of your total square footage to account for pattern matching or damage while installing.

Ideally, you want to ask the wallpaper installers you’re considering for examples of past work, and references you can call. These will prove that the installer can handle your job, make your room look professional, and will also give you some insight into the kind of customer service you can expect. Before you start calling companies, you might want to narrow down your options by finding installers with mostly positive reviews online.

The color of the paint, its opacity, and the depth of the texture on the paper all affect how many coats of paint you need to apply to paintable wallpaper. You'll need at least two coats of paint to ensure even coverage. Don’t be surprised if you need to apply three coats if the embossing is very deep or if you use a dark color.
