"With many service companies, I believe communication seems to be the most challenging as some job sites aren't close to a tower. I am very happy and would love to share before/after photos."

"Extremely well done. Project had flooding issues. The crew dug a drain well, regraded the yard and input a French drain system efficiently, effectively and were really easy to work with. Jimmy was clear, communicative and quick. I will definitely rely on this company again when necessary. Fantastic experience!"

"Andrew and his team did a very good job. They were professional and punctual. New asphalt is level and looks great. When summer gets here, I'll get the new asphalt seal-coated to restore entire driveway to a beautiful showpiece. Washington State Paving is a well equipped contractor with the right tools. I was impressed with their organizatio.

"Immediate call back when requested quote, and great service. Crew workers are hard working and respectful. The work performed went way beyond the basics... from cutting down 3 ft weeds, removing debris, spraying for weed control, trimming under bushes, cleaning up edges of flower bed, and then spreading bark. I would hire them again, and recommend this company ?."

"The workers were hard working. Did a great job. The only concern we had was the lack of attention to the workers: no porta potty and no machinery to help carry the heavy concrete. Still waiting for the $250 gift card reward, lol!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Think of the street as a way to capture all the elements on either side of the road, including the road—a street encompasses the homes or other buildings, the trees, and the road of a given area as defined by the beginning and end of the street on a map. A roadway, however, is the component of the street where cars travel.

Your city or county will have guidelines about the minimum and maximum width and length of private roads. The average private road is 12 feet wide, and length, of course, depends on your property. Requirements also depend on the amount of traffic and types of vehicles your road experiences. Check with local ordinances before planning a road on your property.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
