"Breaker Brothers Electric may be a fairly new company, but I urge you to take a chance with them. I did and couldn't be happier with their work. Matt and John are both great to work with and their bid was very fair and beat the competition. They replaced our old breaker box and installed a car charger for us. The work was great, the communication was clear and timely, and the guys were trustworthy and friendly. The project was done well and on time. Next time I have any electrical needs, I'll call them directly. I was very impressed with Breaker Brothers Electric!"

"Kelvin was extremely helpful and knowledgable of all that we needed to have repaired and upgraded. He was very helpful in obtaining the permits we needed and communicated with the inspector for two inspections and met him at our property on our behalf. He went well beyond the minimum, making our entire system more secure and able to last for a number of years. He was very polite, accommodating and even adjusted to our time zone for our communication. He provided images of the work he completed with clear explanations. He sent us estimates and always checked with us before going ahead. We were so fortunate to be able to have Kelvin assist us."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, sconces don’t have to be hardwired, but they can be for a more permanent solution. Sconces come in various styles, sizes, and finishes as well as types of installation. Plug-in wall sconces can be plugged into a nearby outlet, and battery-powered sconces can be mounted to the wall.

Appliances in your home that need dedicated circuits include:

  • Refrigerators and chest freezers

  • Electric ranges, microwaves, and toaster ovens

  • Dishwashers and garbage disposals

  • Washers and dryers

  • Heating and air conditioning units

  • Hot tubs, saunas, and water pumps

  • Sump pumps

  • Central vacuums

Yes, electric fences need power to operate. They are powered by either a battery or an electrical outlet. In heavy snow or extreme rain, or if the power goes out, your electric fence might stop working. Knowing how to test an electric fence is important for figuring out if the fence is still functioning properly.

Volts and watts aren’t directly convertible units—they measure different aspects of electricity. Volts measure electrical potential, while watts quantify the power. The relationship between the two is defined by the equation: Power (watts)= Voltage (volts) x Current (amperes). In other words, the product of volts and amps results in watts, but there is no fixed conversion of volts into watts.

Yes, a water leak poses a major fire risk at your home because water is a conductor of electricity. Water that comes into contact with sparks or electrical wires can instantly ignite flammable materials. Additionally, any type of exposure to water can cause wires and other electrical components within your home to corrode. When assessing categories of water damage, it's important to know that even a small amount of moisture near wiring could cause sparks that lead to a fire.
