"within minutes, I received a call from the very friendly and professional Michelle. Calling me all the way from California! Michelle explained the services she could and could not offer in terms of my needed furniture repair. And while she cannot help me specifically with my furniture issue, she offered a very generous solution: she is going to send me leather dye for the scratched ottoman and talk me through the repair, should I need help! Michelle also explained that she deals with customers all over the country, in need of leather and purse and clothing repair, cleaning, and restoration. Based on my extremely positive experience with Michelle, I will be sure to call her in the future when I need help with fur, leather or suede goods!!!"

"Our dog Barry is a big golden retriever and when he was a puppy we had a real good time trying to get him potty trainer. We had Nick clean our carpets once and he did a great job so we have just called him again and he cleaned our house again this year. Easy going guy with great results. Our carpets have been cleaned throughout our house twice by Nick and we believe heâ s done quality work both times. True North does a great job. We are glad to have found a local company that does a good job!"

"Hammonds Home Detailing provided excellent service for my "rush" spring cleaning. I got my estimate and service within 24 hours. The service was amazing and everything turned out as I had hoped it would. I had clear expectations and Lawrence was an excellent listener as we walked through the house and discussed what I was looking for. The estimate that he provided was accurate and reasonable for the work that was done. He worked quickly and provided a very thorough cleaning -- much to my relief as my guests were arriving in mere hours. He worked well on his own initiative, but checked when he had a question about something. The house looked wonderful -- everything clean and sparkling and it smelled terrific! I highly recommend this service -- and was especially impressed by the excellent customer service that I received. We will be using this service again in the near future! Thank you, Hammonds!"

Couch Cleaning Services questions, answered by experts

Sometimes, you can clean an HVAC filter rather than replace it. If you have a washable filter, also known as a permanent or semi-permanent HVAC filter, wash the filter once per month. However, if you have filters that are not labeled as washable, do not attempt to clean them and reuse them. Many HVAC filters are disposable, and you’ll need to buy a whole new filter to replace dirty disposable filters.

Yes, many professionals offer HEPA filter upgrades for improved indoor air quality and allergen reduction.

Don’t run your AC with a wet filter. It can cause your AC to work too hard, which will run up your utility bill and cause extra wear and tear on the system. You could also spread moisture and mold throughout your house. Turn off the AC, remove the wet filter, and check for cracks or clogs. Fix the problem (with a pro’s help, if you need it), and put a dry filter in place before you turn the system back on.

It’s not customary to tip HVAC technicians, and most professionals won’t expect it. However, it’s a nice way of showing your appreciation for the work they do, especially if they come out in inclement weather or on a weekend or holiday to fix an emergency issue if your heat or AC goes out in extreme temperatures. A good tip would be between 10% to 20% of the total bill, depending on how above and beyond the tech goes for your repair and on the total cost of your HVAC repair or service. For something like a routine tune-up or scheduled maintenance, tips aren’t expected.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
