"Variant was fantastic through the entire project. From the first phone call during bids through the completion, you knew you were working with a real professional. Adam was communicative, insightful, and thorough. Through each phase we have had Adam out, his work has been well done and beautifully finished. His dedication to his customers goals is felt. I would happily recommend him to friends and family."

"Dillon Excavation just completed a grading and drain system project for me on my horse property, and his work was exemplary. He was conscientious, punctual, thorough, and knowledgeable. The final cost was exactly what he quoted, and he was a pleasure to work with. Dillon’s integrity is top notch, and I’d absolutely hire him again and again."

"Matt was very professional, efficient with his time, competitively priced, and amicable. He avoided many things that we discovered in the ground, even after private utility location. I would absolutely hire him again for future projects and would refer him to anyone needing an excavation operator with refined skills. Thanks, Matt! Five Stars!"

"Matt and his company did through and quality work. We couldn't have been happier with the end result. He went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with the work that was done. We had several bids and he was 1/3 of the cost the others were. But more importantly he stood behind the work he did and was a man of his word which is so hard to find. If you're struggling to find someone who is reliable and does quality work look no further. You won't be dissappointed"

"I just moved to Skagit Valley and know nothing about site preparation for my new house. The wooded, 1 acre lot had been partially logged but needed more tree removal, slash burning and major debris clean up. For the bid meeting, Dennis "Boomer" Hyatt arrived at the lot a few minutes early and had already sized up the project and offered new ideas as to how to best accomplish the project within my budget. I had been told it couldn't be done and I would have to do it in stages. Another contractor had bid a much higher price. We set a work date and started work on that date. His crew showed up on time and got to work immediately. The guys obviously knew each other and worked well as a team. They got the burn pile going, cranked up the chain saws and excavator and got to work. They worked steadiy both days and got the job done. the lot is absolutely builder ready and I couldn't be more pleased. I only hope the rest of my build project goes as well. They are going to back in the spring to help me put in the yard and reconfigure the driveway. Absolute 5 stars for this business."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Almost any kind of home can have a wine cellar or cabinet installed. You’ll need an area where a concrete floor can be put in, along with the necessary insulation, climate control, and ventilation systems. If you think of yourself as an aspiring sommelier, an underground wine cellar may be ideal, but it will cost significantly more.

What you choose to install really depends on your budget and how many bottles you’re looking to store.

A trench that is less than 5 feet deep often doesn't require a protective system. Most residential trenches will not go this deep (the typical residential drainage trench is just 18 inches deep). In the event that an excavator needs to dig more than 5 feet beneath the surface, a protective system is required unless the excavation is in entirely stable rock.

The time it takes to build a pool—and dig out the area—varies based on the pool size and type. A professional excavator will take between four and eight hours to dig a pool. The process will take longer if they encounter large boulders or tree roots. Keep in mind that this is a small part of the process in the long run. You will need between eight and 12 weeks to build a pool from start to finish, including the time to apply for permits.

Hardscaping often requires preparation of the ground in the area where the feature is being installed. This can include digging, compacting, and leveling the soil, ensuring adequate drainage, and removing any existing plants. The extent of preparation needed will depend on the type and size of the hardscaping feature being installed.

After you successfully remove your boulder, you have a few options for what to do to get rid of it. You can rent a dumpster if your yard has many boulders or if you’re planning a larger project. You can even save the boulder and reuse it elsewhere on your property to save on landscaping costs. A few ideas include using the boulder as a natural, abstract statue, breaking it into smaller pieces to line your garden bed, or offering it to a landscaping company that could reuse it for another project.
