"Steve O. , Terrace Heights, Yakima. Project: Fell 2 dead pines, grind 3 stumps. I am a property project manager, I do not hand out 5* ratings very easily. I have dealt with properties in multiple states and cities... Finding Big R was a huge win me; not only getting my work done, but also in restoring my confidence of value for dollar, honest business owners. You can hire the big companies and pay big company dollars to get the assurance it will be done right... sometimes needing to deal with customer service...but eventually you will get it done right. Big R is a Small business with just the right size crew and right-sized equipment for the a very technical job; expandable to get what needed to be done quickly and efficiently. Raul was incredible, very professional : punctual, ready with all the equipment needed, pre-planned and staged the work statement, respectfully communicative, and very honest in letting me know what would not be cost effective (to save me $.. a tree I was going to have him prune to save.... "wish I could, but you will just have me back to remove it in a year or two, its just too far gone." Two very tall and dead pines were very close to my wood house with a cedar shake roof... he dropped them perfectly w/o damage to house or neighbor's fence...impressive. Perhaps many could do that (not me, but many), but the value for the job was even more impressive. The bid was one of the lower bids received out of the 4, which spanned from $2,500 up to $6,200 (frankly, I don't think that guy on top wanted the job)..... Get at least 3 bids... make sure Big R is one of them. and for sure read reviews and talk with Raul personally about what he proposes and why. I am well pleased with their work. Steve O."

"Francisco of Sanchez Lawn Care did an awesome job trimming my bushes and trees. Cleaned everything up and took 2 trips to the dump. Very polite, on time, and kept me informed on his progress. Very reasonably priced and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him and will use him in the future."

"My giant cherry tree fell over at 5pm and I called Brian for emergency tree removal. The next morning, he had a crew out to chop down and chip the tree. He then came out with the stump grinder and took care of the rest. It was all done by 1:00pm!! I cannot recommend Sound Stump more highly. I was in a situation where the rest of the tree could have fallen and done serious damage to property. Brian saved the day; the arborists were incredibly kind, conscientious, and helpful, which I especially appreciated in an emergency. This is an exemplary company. Thank you, Brian!"

"Great, fast work with a smile! They did an excellent job removing a falling tree from my front yard. The cleanup was very thorough, too. They came out of their way to help me (I live in a remote, rural area in Western Washington near the mountains). They gave me a great price, too. I highly recommend OSO Landscaping!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

Many gardeners charge an hourly rate for their services, and your total cost will depend on the amount of services and the experience of the gardener. Gardeners with basic experience charge between $20 and $30 per hour, while a more experienced gardener can charge as much as $60 to $88 per hour.

The cost of lawn mowing is about $125, which you might need on a weekly or biweekly basis. However, the cost of soil testing averages about $1,450, which should only be done every three to five years.

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Yes, you can prune a palm tree with a chainsaw, but a chainsaw is overkill for a job like this. You risk damaging the tree if you make a bad cut. More commonly, you’ll need pruning shears or a serrated knife to trim a palm tree, or you can use a specialized pruning saw instead of a chainsaw.
