Summer is the best time of year to treat chinch bugs. Check the instructions on the treatment method or consult a pest control pro for timing recommendations. You want to wait for chinch bugs to have a chance at coming out of hibernation and move around, but not too long that they start doing damage. Aim for around mid to late spring for most chinch treatments.

As beautiful as vines on your home's exterior can be, they do like to attract many kinds of creepy crawlies. Bugs—including beetles, aphids, weevils, and others—like to make themselves at home in ivy. You can also bet if a wide selection of bugs is available, it will attract spiders, too.

A strong honeybee colony can usually fight off the aggressive presence of yellow jackets. However, weaker honeybee colonies with fewer workers are especially vulnerable to yellow jackets. If yellow jackets gain entry into a weakened honeybee colony, they can easily kill the honeybees and empty the hive of all its contents. 

Moles make mounds that look like tiny volcanoes, and they are sometimes obscure. They're stealthy creatures that feast on insects. Gophers, on the other hand, create half-moon mounds while digging deeper tunnels. These critters chew on roots and plants, so it is often easier to spot the damage created. Also, moles are usually smaller, with velvety fur, tiny eyes, and shovel-like hands for digging. Gophers are larger rodents with prominent front teeth and external cheek pouches for carrying food. That'll give you the scoop on whether moles or gophers hang out in your yard.

Termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles can move from wood furniture to other areas of your home. If you notice signs of bugs in wood furniture, it's best to remove and isolate it for treatment. Remember that it can be difficult to identify which type of pest you are dealing with, and they can already be in areas of your home.
