"I asked for help with no notice and they responded with the repair the very next day because I was only in town for 2 days to fix the insulation problem for my home sale inspection. Thanks very much for your help today! I would happily recommend them anytime!"

Small jobs welcome

"OK, letâ s get this out-of-the-way. The job was a daunting one which was completed to perfection. His work is clean and thorough. But letâ s talk about Arlin. Heâ s kind of dry, with a no problem, can-do attitude. I was kind of worried if he knew what he was getting into because the job was quite challenging (huge expanse at 25 feet in the air, insulating around 40â exposed glulams). No worries - this is an impressive young man. His work is excellent. Highly recommend."

"I hired Acorn Attics to insulate my house and I couldn’t be more happy with their work. Phil and his crew were on time, friendly and incredibly hard workers. He worked with me on scheduling and made sure to keep our project moving even when we had a setback with another repair. I highly recommend them. They will get the job done. Thank you Acorn Attics and Crawl Spaces!!"

"I hired puget partners insulation did a great job on my crawl space. It was a nasty mess with a lot of rodent activity, and now itâ s good as new! They were timely and finished everything within a day. Re-insulated, new vapor barrier and closed up some of the vents where rodents were getting in. They were affordable and great to work with, incredibly professional. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for insulation work or work on your crawl space."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Insulating windows with plastic works, but it can be time-consuming, and the end results can—and often do—end up lacking in aesthetics. Window film and caulking your windows to make sure there are no drafts are two options that increase the energy efficiency of your home in a low-cost way. Plastic can be a good strategy while you consider alternatives.

You should not use spray foam insulation in several specific areas. Avoid applying it in spaces exposed to high temperatures, such as near electrical boxes or recessed lighting, unless the foam is specifically rated for such use. Applying foam near electrical boxes can damage the wiring, and using it too close to lightboxes or recessed lights creates a potential fire hazard. Additionally, do not use spray foam in areas prone to shifting or movement, as this can lead to cracks and gaps in the insulation. Finally, open-cell foam is unsuitable for use below ground or in areas exposed to moisture because it can absorb water, which compromises its insulating effectiveness.

The cost of installing spray foam insulation is $2,760 on average, but this cost can be as low as $650 or as high as $7,700. The main cost factor is the size of the insulated area and the type of spray foam insulation.

Polyurethane spray foam costs between $0.44 and $1.50 per board foot, where a board foot is equal to the volume of a one-foot length of a board. More expensive options, like soybean or vegetable oil spray foam, range from $1.50 to $3.00 per board foot.

If you’re using faced insulation with paper, face the paper toward the inside of the room during the installation process.

A good way to remember this is that the paper should face the “warm side” as it’s the vapor barrier, meaning it should face toward where the heat will be coming from.

Yes, even though frost-free and freeze-proof faucets are designed to withstand winter weather, it is still recommended to cover them with an insulated cap, especially during periods of extreme cold. These faucets work by keeping excess water inside the home's heated space and using a downward slope to drain, but this protection can be compromised. For the faucet to work correctly, you must always disconnect any attached hoses before temperatures drop below freezing, as a hose can trap water and lead to freezing. Ultimately, covering all outdoor faucets, even freeze-proof models, is the best way to prevent frozen and burst pipes.
