"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"They were Great. on time and daily clean up . I will hire them again to do more in the next few months and in the future. I've been in construction for over 40 years and 30 of them as a Superintendent and project manager. To say the least I'm very picky."

"Matias and his team were thorough in prepping the house before painting (washing and caulking) and did a great job with attention to detail when painting all the trim. They also removed the gutters instead of painting around them. Overall a nice job. And also as important, Matias was on time, accomplished job within schedule and to budget."

"They did ok. Had the wrong color gutter and then made me wait 4 hours while they went to get correct color without letting me know it was going to be that long. Had to return the next day to complete but did a good job for the most part."

"Chris was very knowledgeable. He came by to do an in person quote to remove moss on our roof and clean out the gutters which he did great. What wasn't done was cleaning up afterwards. Moss was only on the 2 sides of my roof, the right side and back. All the moss and gutter debris from the cleaning was all over my backyard and right side of my house, and some into the neighbors yard on my right. I never got before and after pics he said he was going to send, nor did I get a receipt of payment. I do have RING so it did record me actually paying."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The trick to getting gleaming gutters can vary based on the material of your gutters. Aluminum gutters can often be restored to pristine condition by using a cloth to scrub them with a solution consisting of 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Vinyl gutters can be whitened using dish soap and water. For deeply stained vinyl gutters, adding bleach with water and dish soap may help to remove black streaks. Many retailers sell premixed gutter sprays. Applying cleaning solutions to dry gutters before rinsing can help cleaners attach to dirt and grime for easier removal.

Regularly clean debris, check for leaks at seams, and ensure proper drainage to prevent clogging and water damage.

Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, to remove the debris from trees that can clog the eavestroughs and downspouts. Debris like leaves, twigs, and seed pods can build up and cause your gutters to overflow, potentially causing damage to your roof and foundation. Water backing up under the shingles can rot the edge of your roofline. Overflow water falling next to your foundation can end up leaking into your basement or crawl space.

Shingle granules can be cleaned out of gutters using a small scoop or a hose, depending on the quantity of granules and how much other debris is in your gutters. First, clear your gutters of leaves and other debris. This may remove granules in the gutters if they are mixed in with the debris. Use a plastic scoop to remove larger quantities of granules or a hose with a high-powered nozzle for smaller amounts, and collect and dispose of the granules once they’ve been removed.

If you want to avoid burying your downspouts, several alternatives can help direct water away from your home's foundation. One option is to connect a rain barrel to your downspout. During a storm, the barrel collects water that you can later use for irrigating your lawn or garden. Another common solution is to install an above-ground downspout extension. This can be done in a couple of ways:

  • Splash Guards: Placing a splash guard, available at most hardware stores, under your downspout can act as a simple funnel to direct water away from the house.

  • Downspout Extensions: You can add an extension to the end of the downspout's elbow to carry water further into your yard. Some extensions are flexible, allowing you to maneuver them around landscaping.

These above-ground solutions are particularly useful if your home has a slab foundation that you cannot dig up. However, they have limitations. An extension may not move water as far from your home as an underground system. More importantly, if your yard slopes back toward your house, these methods will be ineffective, and burying your downspouts remains the best option to prevent potential flooding and water damage.
